I love 5-stone rings. I've not really had much luck finding one to suit me though. This will be my third and it's becoming too frustrating a venture.

This is my 1st 5-stone. http://youtu.be/a5_N_y7xu3E
It was made by DbL although I purchased it from another party. The ctw is 1.90 so the Daussi cushions somewhere in the area of .38ct each. I LOVED this ring (for a little while). The problem I had with it was that my finger is so large (Size 8.5), you could see metal on each side and it ruined the "wall of diamond" effect I wanted. The prongs on this ring are ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and it's beautifully made. I did not like the way that no matter which way I turned my finger, there was windowing in the stones. Can't be avoided with Daussis I guess. Soooooo...on to the next 5-stone....

I got the 2nd 5-stone from BGD. It is the "Open Gallery" model in Platinum. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/wedding-and-anniversary-bands/eternity-bands/open-gallery-5-stone-platinum-5388p
The diamonds are all .40s ctw of 2.04. I LIKE this ring but I don't LOVE it (no fault of the ring, it's well-done). I've discovered that I do not care for platinum. All of my other jewelry is Yellow Gold and although it isn't fashionable right now, it is the color best suited to my skin tone. I am positive going forth that I will purchase a Yellow Gold ring. I got the "wall of diamonds" that I wanted and no windowing. Yay! No metal peeks out from the sides. I am not crazy about the large beaded prongs though.

The color on the DbL ring is E. I learned that I like warmer stones. The color on the second ring is J. I learned I like my stones even warmer than that. That brings us to the 3rd ring.

I have a stone set in a solitaire that is beautifully warm. It is 1.75ct. I purchased 4 stones that match the color perfectly! They are all GIA stones K, Faint Brown .70 VS2 VG cut/.71 VVS2 VG cut/.35 IF EX cut/.35 VVS2 EX cut. I do not know or understand enough about stats or ASETS or any of that -- just the basics and I think they are nice stones. They certainly LOOK nice to my untrained eye. It was pretty hard to get K stones that weren't yellowish. I much prefer a brownish tint.

So here is my question...does anyone have a suggestion on what I can set them in? I need it to be yellow although the top/head/basket/or even just prongs can be white (platinum I suppose, I am allergic to nickel). What I disliked the most about the other two is that they were both low-set flat "band" rings. On my big hands they looked a little masculine IMO -- kinda "brass knucklish"? I thought the graduated stones would allow for something more graceful. I see everyone's rings and they look beautiful on Size 5's and such but when I get a similar one, they look pretty small on me. I think the stones are large enough this time but I want them to look like more of an Engagement Ring this time and less of a Wedding Band if that makes any sense. I've been in the 5-stone ring thread, now I'm more undecided than ever.

If someone could pleeeassseee point me in the right direction -- just far enough to get me off and running -- I'd be ever so grateful!! I've been spinning my wheels for months now.

This is my personal favourite: the Trellis 5-stone by Victor Canera. I believe this is Yssie's ring. It sits higher on the finger and definitely has an engagement ring feel.

That is definitely one of my personal favorites! I played with it in my head a million times and I couldn't figure out how to make something like that with a yellow shank and white prongs. Those prongs are beautiful on a giant stone like that but mine is much smaller. It has the FEEL I want for sure! Thank you Acinom for reading all of that. You captured my intent on the 1st go around!

I like that ring. I like trellises in general but it's too much metal in that one. BGD has gorgeous settings but I really wish their prongs were less prominent. I seem to be attracted to rings that you don't see much metal on top like this one:

ETA: BUDGET!! I forgot that part. The stones are purchased. I'm looking at around $2k, maybe $2,500 but not a penny over for the setting.

Or my Daussi:

And I really, REALLY dig very much rings that just have one little prong in the middle or even two that are sort of squeezed together like this:

See 2nd and 4th ring down. My eye is usually drawn to those. The prong(s) are shorter than the stone, giving it a "Mickey Mouse" ears effect. I worry about how secure it is though. I do not know if it is easily accomplished with different sized stones but it is a look I'd very much love to have.

I took that pic from Google but I see it came from here. I hope the owner of the photo does not mind my using it.

Not really on topic (sorry!), but what did you do with your Daussi band??

Mom has it these days. I "loaned" it to her and she doesn't seem to want to give it back...lol.

I know it seems like I'm talking to myself but that's ok...don't mind me -- it's all a part of how my little mind works things through.

I love it when the stones look like Mickey Mouse ears. I've now come to realize it is referred to as "floating diamond setting" and sometimes "common prong" although not all common prongs are considered floating. That said, if I go that way, the ring will have the "band" appearance because the stones would all need to be relatively low set and even across the top. Right? I'd have to give up the ER look and it would look more wedding band in appearance.

Those common prong settings really are not suitable to such large stones... They won't be strong enough and the diamond would not be safe at all!

I think your main stone is quite large and will sit higher than the side stones. No matter how low they are set the profile would not be even across the top. I may be wrong but I would think for a shared prong design to work the stones would have to be close in size.

Maybe I'll just get an eternity at another time to get my Mickey fix. I ordered one in the past but mine didn't come out like that at all. Back to the drawing board then...

The only other thing that is catching my eye would be a trellis I guess but I haven't fallen in love with any of the stock ones I've seen. I want a lighter/whimsical feel to it. I'm still working on the yellow gold shank and the white head concept. Hmmmmm....

I have an idea. Going to try to draw it and see if it's feasible.

OK OK OK OK OK!!

I cannot draw.

I found what I think is a CAD drawing (probably belongs to someone here so please forgive me for swiping it). It was on Google.

How about something LIKE this BUT without the trellis wires. Is that even possible? Is there some way to put prongs on those little donuts that you've ever seen? I mean, the donuts would be bigger, more like little cups I guess but NOT full-out bezels.

Yeaaaahhhh...I need to sleep on this one. Something is coming together in my mind with it. I'm just not sure what it is yet.

Goldenrule it is possible. I believe that first one below is that one. I've also posted another design for your consideration that I like the design of (the execution of the actual prongs is too bulky though).

The 1st one is ALMOST what I'm thinking. You see the point where all those wires come together under the cups? That wouldn't be there. Just the cups and the prongs. There would be space under the stones (although not quite THAT much).

This is low set, but it's what I would get. http://www.whiteflash.com/gallery/wedding-bands/graduated-five-stone-diamond-ring-10904.htm

I honestly think that what makes or breaks a graduated 5 stone is the proportions. I like VERY DISTINCT graduations not subtle ones. This is what I like: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/graduated-5-stone-ring-will-it-fit-on-my-finger.196265/

And it sounds like your stones are similar, which is a good thing. Can you post a picture of them all in a row? I'd love to see them.

I only have the 4 now. The big stone is being unmounted but I have pics of it by itself. I like that Whiteflash setting very much! But when I show you a pic of my hand you'll see what I mean about the low set band rings being masculine on me.

I'll post them in the morning. I need a little sun.

Mom2Boys is pretty darned close!! Does Whiteflash set outside stones? I think Victor Canera would be probably double my budget.

I've been reading that thread for years. That's why I keep buying 5-stones...lol. It should be locked and the entire subject banned.

I'm going to sleep on it a little. I have an idea...just can't articulate it yet. Thanks so much, Gypsy. At least I've found a starting point!! You've been most helpful!

My pic didn't come out so great...it's not my specialty. The redness on the stones is the reflection from my red dress.

These are the certificates for the stones although I can no longer tell which is which. My old eyes cannot see the little number on the girdle.

Next to my very dirty BGD 5-stone which are all .40s for perspective.
