My gf wants a fancy brown "champagne" diamond. We're currently in the market for about a 1 ct round stone. So far, the only place I've found that has some selection is JamesAllen.. DBL doesn't seem to have many in stock at the moment. It seems at JA, a 1 ct would cost about mid $3K range. Is that a reasonable price to pay for a champagne stone?

Also, I was wondering if cut/clarity/polish etc are as important factors in determining the value/beauty of a fancy brown stone as it is in white diamonds.

I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge.. also if you have a recommendation of a website that sells fancy brown diamonds, please let me know. Thanks!

Fancy colors are cut to maximize color. So you'll see less than ideal proportions (usually) and other shapes than RB, like radiant or pears. Not saying they aren't out there, but they are a needle in a field of haystacks. Mid threes sounds about right from what I've seen retail.

David can definitely find you what you want if he doesn't have it listed.

This is a nice one from Leibish,

And one from reddiam

The one David listed from lebish is gorgeous! Lots of people use them for colored stones. I agree DBL can get you a gorgeous stone if you call them too.

Thanks for the help guys. The other sites' stones don't look as nice as the ones on JA, though..

Any other suggestions?
