Hello all,
I am very new to diamonds but as I am about to buy an engagement ring I have been trying to learn as much as possible. I have been talking to everyone I can and reading everything possible. Unfortunately, I feel I often get differing opinions or advice. My total budget for ring and diamond is 10,000 and I really just want to get the best round diamond I can. Through my search I have come close to settling on one of two diamonds, each from different sources.
The first is a .91 round, D, eye clean SI1, excellent cut. Excellent polish and symmetry and medium blue fluorescence. $9050.
Depth 61.9%
Table 54%
Crown angle 34 degrees
Pavilion angle 40.8 degrees
No culet
medium - slightly thick girdle
The second is 1.32, D, eye clean SI2, very good cut. Excellent polish and symmetry and no fluorescence. $8500.
Depth 62.2%
Table 59%
Crown angle 35%
Pavilion angle 41.6
No Culet
medium girdle
The 1.32 I have not actually seen for myself but I have been speaking to the vendor extensively. He has many years of experience with the GIA and AGS and assures me the lower cut grade will not affect the diamonds fire or brilliance, at least to the naked eye. I just have concerns when almost everything I read tells me to go for cut first and foremost. HCA also gives it a 5.7 when I use it.
The .91 diamond has a nearly perfect cut and a great 1.1 on HCA, just a little bit smaller for a little more money.
Which of these do you think I should go with to get the best diamond for my money? Also, as a side, both vendors tell me that I will definitely be able to see a difference with a D as opposed to a G, which is what I was thinking about initially.
Thank you so much for any help!
