i just found out some info on the stone being paid off...i thought that it was a 2.42 princess f si1...now he tells me it is a h-si1!!I am rather dissapointed,i would rather go for a smaller stone with better color.I feel bad about even thinking this...am i too picky??
Did you have several stones out at one time. Decide you liked one over the others and think you were getting the F/SI?? It is very easy to get diamonds confused when you are looking at several at one time.
Still,........ You thought you were getting one thing and now your getting something different.
Square cuts tend to hold and show more body color than rounds. If you are all color sensitive, an H color diamond may not be for you. Plus there's the question of the Grade qualifying inclusions. You need to get back to that shop and confirm that both the color and clarity works for you before you fully buy and own the diamond. You may need to make an exchange.
Whatever stone you do finally purchase, you need to be completely happy with it.
Was this a recent purchase? On line or from a local or chaing jeweler? Did or do you have anything in writing as to the grading as it was sold? What were the circumstances led you to the discovery that the diamond was different? Any guarantee or warantee on the diamond? If you could you provide a little more information--it may be helpful with the responses you recieve.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from your post, it sounds like this is a stone you've already owned for a while and are in the processs of paying off. If you're still in the actual buying process/return window, then I agree with the two posts above. If you've been happy with the color of the stone up to this time, then that's what's important. Stones are given a color grade to help differentiate them from other stones in the buying process, but that's all it is, a grade. It doesn't change the actual properties of the stone. My point is, does the stone look yellower now that you know maybe it should have been graded an H instead of an F? It's still the same stone, and that's what you look at everyday, not the piece of paper that is grading it. there is something to be said for knowing the quality of what you own, but i think it's more important to be happy with the way it looks. Some people might even argue that there is no good or bad color, there's just color preferences, and some people even prefer the look of a little warmer diamond. Anyway, that's my 2 cent, for what it's worth.
thank u all for your input!!!My soon to be fiance were talking about it over diner and i almost choked on my food..he is paying it off and i thought all along it was the 2.42 f-si1 along with .60 princess on each side, nice(eventhough i haven't seen it yet)set but i am dissapointed because i prefer color over clarity (to an extent)i think i can see a difference between an h and f...i spoke to him about it and i think i hurt his feelings...i would rather get a smaller stone with better specs...
Ok, the fact that you haven't seen it yet definitely changes my response a little bit. The other relevant question is whether or not he's still able to return/exchange it? I personally don't think there's anything wrong with an H color stone, even in a princess cut, but you are the one that's going to have to look at it the rest of your life. If he can still exchange it, that might be an option, I would just approach the subject very carefully, because I can understand how his feelings might be hurt a little bit. I'm sure he wants to get you the best ring possible, and 2.4-carat-anything is nothing to sneeze at. On the other hand, how many F and H color stones have you seen next to each other? Before you approach the subject again, it might be a good idea to make sure it's that important to you, and also keep in mind that while you might be able to see a slight difference side by side, there's a good chance the H color stone will look extremely white all by itself.
thank u magnum for your response...i did see a few stones and that is why i thought it was an f-si1...i agree and i will "tread lightly' on this one, he has suggested that i go back and look again but i also think that he should educate himself more on what he is buying (geeez...this alot of money...)
That diamond could have green polka-dots and people wouldn't care. I understand your sensitivity, especially considering the substantial value of the stones in consideration. I would make sure he knows full well that you aren't disappointed in him or his decision just that you want to be sure everything is kosher considering how much he's putting himself out for your happiness.
