Hi,

I am looking to buy my girlfriend an engagement ring. We are currently looking at the Tacori 2510 Princess cut ring.
It can be seen here: http://www.tacori.com/Engagement-Rings/HT2510PR12X

I am looking into getting the following diamond:
EGL certified
Size: 0.93ct
Clarity: VS1
Color: H
Cut: excellent cut

All in for about $8500.00. Is this a good deal? Should I look for somthing different in regards to the diamond?

Thanks!!!

No way to know the cut performance of the princess stone from just the numbers. Will need at least an ASET image. The only lab that grades the cut performance of a princess is AGSL. Ex cut rating is probably givenby the vendor, could mean anything as it is not back up by anything.

Also EGL is considered soft in color and clarity grade by the trade and is discounted accordingly to what the vendor think it will get if correctly graded by AGS/GIA lab.

thanks for the info. I will see if i can get an image. Are there some other things I should look for. The jewler has said that I can come see the diamond. Any tips? Suggestions?

Buy yourself an ASET scope, learn how to use it then go visit the jeweler? http://ideal-scope.com/cart_order.asp

There is no way anyone not trained in diamond color and clarity grading can tell accurately what is the grade.

So best bet is to hire an independent appraiser to look at the stone for you in terms of performance, color and clarity of the stone. Make sure the jeweler has a return policy or put it down on writing that the deal is only confirm once the stone comes back from the appraiser as stated by the jeweler.

Appraiser list, find one near you with the necessary equipment, ASET.

Also find out which EGL lab graded the diamond, EGL USA are thought to be the strongest of the EGL labs with branches such as EGL Israel less so. What is your priority here, to find just a nicely cut Princess on a budget or do you want the best cut you can find?

my goal was to spend about 8500 which is what the kewler has offered. I know the setting I have chosen is a bit expensive, but its the one she wants.

Ill talk to the jewlwer about the suggestions above. Does it seem like a decent deal? he has guaranteed me satisfacation (i can change the diamond if i dont like it)

anyone else have anything thoughts on this?

Follow Stone-Cold''s suggestions, and get the satisfaction guarantee in writing. If you like the stone, it seems like a good price considering MSRP on the setting alone seems to be about $6,000.

It sounds like a good deal to me. I have that exact ring with a 1.07 diamond, E color, VS1, excellent cut. Mine was about $9800. Good choice. I love it.
