I showed my girlfriend the stone
she spotted the yellow face up right away
i guess now that there is no UV light around
the rock cant take advantage of its boron crystals (fluorescence)

hopefully the return goes as smooth as planned
otherwise anybody want a nice
2.33ct, VVS, ideal cut stone - $18k

i think i'm going to just buy from a local vendor or blue nile

thanks everybody for the help

oh, how bad is an I color stone face up
is the warmth easily visible?

you get what you pay for... dealers ain't stupid for throwing away money...

I am joining the party late, but I am glad you decided to return the stone. Last year I purchased my 2 carat diamond. My husband's family has used the same NYC Chinatown jeweler for over 30 years. They will haggle like crazy to buy 24k gold, jade and diamond jewelry in cash. They never bought diamond solitaires from this jeweler, but I thought we should take a look and get pricing before purchasing my diamond. The jeweler had a 2.07 carat GIA H/VS1 graded diamond and we negotiated the best cash price possible. I think it was like 22k. I ended up purchasing online from BlueNile. The whole cash transaction/refund uncertainty was too scary for me even with the history my family has with this jeweler. I am extremley weary of Chinatown jewelers. Return the diamond asap. I hope they will allow you to return it and did not swindle you thinking that they already made 18k for the diamond and possibly a 6k bonus if you actually kept it. My experience with BlueNile was very favorable, but I discovered PS after my purchase. I think the extra images and customer service of the PS vendors may be more favorable. Best of luck with your return. Purchasing my diamond was extremely stressful for me too.

Second this. Don't go lower than G if she can easily spot warmth.

I vote you return it too. That's a lot of money with no cert. or upgrade policy you can count on. And I agree that no diamond dealer is going to miss a chance to make all the money they can by getting the stone certed by a reputable lab. Uncerted means "you don't wanna know how bad the stone is". in my opinion.

Ditto. The stone you had is definitely lower than a J. You should look at ideal cut G-H possibly I depending on how color sensitive she is....
