Hello everyone,

This is my first time buying a diamond. I would like to know what you guys think of this diamond I found on James Allen.

The HCA score was .5 with all excellent but very good for spread. It's a good price but unfortunately it is a K color. I am hoping to get some feedback on this choice. Maybe the cut makes up for the poor color?

Thanks in advance

Its a well-cut diamond that will perform well. Its pretty and lively. But, it is a K diamond. The cut will make the color less visible from the face, but you will still see color from the side and someone color sensitive will detect it from the face. Color is very hard to judge on a computer screen. JA does not standardize their lighting setup, so there is quite a variation. You can kinda use the background grey to guage the level of brightness of an image.

I'd put both on old (keep your K on hold too!) and request Ideal-scope images for both of these.

Wow Thank you for your advice!
I actually really like the ones you recommended. So you don't need to necessarily get an "ideal-hearts" cut quality? Also how do I request for an Ideal-scope on those that you recommended? Is it through the screen inspection button?

Thank you again. This was very helpful

The JA "True Hearts" is really aiming at a cutting pattern with some precision in the hearts and arrows with some limits on crown and table, from memory. Its a good place to start, but they are not the only well-cut diamonds you can find on JA...it just takes some searching.

Put both diamonds on hold through the website. Then, using the online chat, request IS images on both. Then, post those here. I think at this time of night, the share my screen and online chat are the same people. ;)2

Also, request that the JA gemologist (not sales associate) review both diamonds and give you an opinion on which has better performance. On the 0.73 VVS1 has more going on (graining and the like), so ask them to see if any of the items listed in the GIA grading notes are impacting performance or perception of clarity. It has faint florescence, but that may help 'lift' a J color when in UV light.

Looking forward to the IS images.

Hello Rockysalamander,

I requested an IS for both of those diamonds you suggested. However the first one is apparently unavailable because it was overseas? The second one they said they will send it to me but it was sold soon after! So they were unable to send me an IS

They got back to me with another recommendation though.
"I’ve completed a diamond search and I’d like to share diamond 3106495 with you. It’s beautifully cut and has an excellent proportions.Due to its cut, it offers excellent fire, brilliance, and scintillation. It’s also white in color and eye clean. We do not have an idealscope image for this diamond on file, but idealscope images do not tell us anything that we can’t learn from the video. If we did have an idealscope image, it would be filled with red coloration."

The diamond referred to her is https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...-color-vvs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3106495

What do you think of this?

Also would you mind sharing how you found such excellent diamonds previously? What Advanced Options numbers did you use perhaps?

Thanks again! I really appreciate this help
