Wow....

I know there''s only so much that is visible, but I''ve got a
pretty well trained eye (and hey, if you ever see your inclusions once,
you''re eye''s going to be able to pick it out quickly next time...) Not to
mention, I''m a rarity freak
1.gif
....

Really though... In using my parameters: .72 - .89, D-H, VVS1-VS2 (and
of course putting everything into the cut) I''d have to say this is the
prettiest diamond I''ve found yet (Max Budget ~$4300 for the stone).

Someone please deflate my baloon... I''m really just blown away by this one.

I''m well aware I could get a bigger one, or could save more money for
something else, however with my max size under .90, what''s wrong with
this one?! [Even the girdle (though slightly thin) is just right on for
the tension setting that I''m looking at doing...(is this correct?)] And
frankly, the MB fluor (as long as it doesn''t cloud at all) is just
love.gif

Did I mention that little HCA score of 0.9?

How much is that IF grade (I ask? / You ask?)

well... (same store)

Round Brilliant (H&A)
G / VS2

5.83 - 5.88 x 3.61 mm

Depth 61.6%
Table 56.0%
Girdle 1.0-1.7
Cutlet Crown 34.0*
Pavillion 41.0*

IDEAL/IDEAL/IDEAL
Fluor - None
$3000

(sure, sure... it's only a 1.4....still, I wonder if there
is actually a penalty for fluorescence, or if blue-white
hype is sitting back quietly enjoying its lack of anonminity?)

Otherwise, on these would you say it's fair to consider:

clarity grade +1 = ~$300/ct. (eg. VS1 --> VVS2)

Looks like a beautiful cut and will probably be a real sparkler with an HCA of 0.9. Can you get BrillianceScope or ISee2 data to confirm visual performance?

If the IF clarity is really important to you (and her?), this may be the one. Personally, I am more of a color girl, and would pick D-F/VVS-VS over H/IF, but we all have our own tastes and preferences. An ideal or super ideal, H&A, H color with med. blue fluorescence should look plenty white. (I just like knowing I have a D -- probably the same way you feel about the IF, and I could see a color difference between D & F in unmounted diamonds.)

Good luck with your decision!

Well.... I don't know if she requires (frankly or even would
care other than that I would care) that her stone was IF... I do think
she'd think that the MBf was groovy, and with a HCA of 0.9.... it'd be
something to shoot rainbows across a room.

I've read here (with a bigger smile now....) that the girl should pick out
the ring and guys pick out the stone. I believe this is the exact sort
of situation they are referencing with that remark
1.gif
. I'd love to step
up the color scale a bit (especially as the setting will be white gold
(preferably) or platinum alloy), however I'm a little wary of going too
white (and sacrificing clarity) or producing blindness (see snow-blindness)
eek.gif
....

In any case, I'm unfortunately not to the stone buying step yet. I've
emailed for a photograph as well as whatever 'scope images they have... I
will be sure to post them here (and keep them as a reference to aide in
selection and blow B&M salespeople's minds)

The only part I'm finding difficult right now is determining size and
apparent size (as no stores thus far have had anything in the 2 (much less
sub-2 HCA range) for me to see how fiery stones look bigger). After I see
this in person, I think that .72-.89 range of mine will focus a little
more

.

Btw.... a quick question to those of you who have a MBf stone with a
naughty.gif
HCA.... what sort of refraction/scintillation/etc is displayed
using a UV source? thanks in advance....

snow-blindness . . . lol!

I love my MBF, but I can't answer your HCA question because I have a marquise and there is no HCA for fancies.

I wish there were -- it would have made our shopping process much simpler.

BTW, my FI and I shopped for my diamond together because I am much more of a cut geek (run a lot of numbers at work) than he is. He was happy because I saved him over $2K and got a better cut (1A versus 3A), larger stone than what he was ready to buy at B&M.
