Can the AGA Charts be used as an aid in evaluating the cut of a HoF Fram Diamond? If so, which chart for fancy shapes should be used?

As an example, I will be going to see a G VS1 Dream diamond with the following proportions:

Table - 56%
Depth - 62%
Crown - 37*
Pavillion - 41*
Girdle - Slightly Thick to Thick
Polish - Ideal
Symmetry - Ideal

Should any of these numbers cause me any concern?

Also, has anyone ever seen Brilliancescope or Idealscope results for a Dream diamond? I would be interested to know what those results were. For example, do they really perform better than well cut radiants or princesses?

Thanks in advance for any assistance that is provided!

Hi Ice,

I've personally seen the dreams and YES they are beautiful. I've seen BrillianceScope results on them (although I have not personally had one) and they looked excellent (of the ones I have seen the results on). I've also had the opportunity to examine them closely under my LightScope (similar to IdealScope) at the Vegas show last year and I was very pleased with what I saw. The only douser was the markup being asked for them but if you can swallow that the Dreams are really beautiful. They kick the pants off of radiant cuts. Insofar as princess cuts... there are princess cuts that are equally as beautiful but finding them are almost like finding needles in haystacks. I say these positive things not being a dealer of them either in case anyone thinks I only say positive things about products I carry. When a stone is good it's good regardless of the dealer.

There is only one other modified square that IMO beats the dream and that is the Regent (and perhaps the upcoming Isee2 H&A square) which is priced way more reasonable.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Jonathan! IT's great to see that there are professionals such as yourself on this forum that do not let business get in the way of providing unbiased educational info!

I did some searching for Dream diamond BScope results and found that the results for a 2.15 ct G SI1 were posted a while ago on Diamond Talk. The link is as follows:
http://www.diamondtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15359&highlight=dream

Leonid I apologize for providing a link to Diamond Talk but I just thought others might be interested in this information. Everyone on Pricescope knows that this is the place to be for diamond information!

I don't know if Dreams in general tend to score as well as the one in the above link and would be interested to know if these results are in accordance with the ones you have viewed Jonathan.

Thanks!

Hi Ice,

I've seen some results from Dan as you've pointed out but I couldn't honestly testify to the "consistency". However when I did get to view them at the Vegas shows the couple of stones I saw made me REALLY want to have them in my inventory however that meant carrying the HoF line and it'd be a tough sell carrying HoF rounds and the markup they demand when people are used to the superior H&A goods we hand pick at considerably lower prices.

Other positive aspects about the dream that were nice was that although it didn't have the "arrows" as in the Regents, it did have the hearts and the light return and beauty of the stones were really remarkable. While I love the Regent one aspect the Dream had going for it was it's nice square octagonal shape. This may be one reason why a person may prefer it over a Regent. It's like... if I could take the Flanders and eek out the best light return possible you'd get the Dream. However I wait with eager anticipation for the Isee2 square as it'll take the shape of the Dream and bring it to the next level ... that of the H&A with a perfectly square shape. From what I'm hearing this will be the next evolution in modified square cutting.

If you go with it Ice, good luck to you. My advice ... compare, compare, compare. Weigh your options. If you really like the Dream best go for it. If you'd like to compare it with another beautiful modified square brilliant we'll accommodate you to the best of our ability (Regent, Queen of Hearts, Lucere, etc.). Even if you just wanted to do a side by side comparison, as long as you cover my shipping I'll help you out like this if you like.

Peace,
Rhino

I understand Doc. You see ... I am biased.

I am biased towards great craftsmanship and superior quality ... particularly in cut. I like to see people get what makes them happy most. If it's with us fine, if not that's fine too. There's plenty to go around. Education is the key.
