I am after some foodback (positive and negative) on a diamond I am looking at.

Also any ideas for settings would be appreciated

The diamond is the one on the left of images shown

The top ring is the setting I prefer, what are your thoughts??

Do you or the jeweller have an ASETscope?

I just googled it and no neither of us do. This is the first I have heard of one!

love the style of ring you're after =)2 Hearts can be tricky and we'd really need to see pics and maybe a GIA report to judge whether or not it's a nice stone.

It could be a lovely stone with lots of sparkle like this one:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/heart-shaped/1.81-carat-f-color-si1-clarity-sku-3376706

or it could be a very dull and dead like this one:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/heart-shaped/1.74-carat-e-color-vs2-clarity-sku-1080326

edited to add: an ASET will help determine the light return of the stone.

Ditto if you can get asset pics. If they both perform well honestly if the 1.7 is the same or less price I would get that. It faces up bigger than the bigger stone, and is already in the setting you like.

Ditto farrahlyn...
We cant really help you without up close photos/videos of the stone. Aset image would be good.

C2A45CAC-FCD2-42DA-ABCB-1CDC26C8BBC0.png Thanks everyone for your replies. This is the only pic I have of the actual diamond.

Do you think the ring in my OP had a diamond of around 1.7 or bigger?

Can't comment on the diamond that you pictured, I am sure the experts will need more info and video would be very helpful.

I can say that my guess would be the diamonds in your inspiration photo are at least 3-4 cts judging by how large they look compared to the models finger.

Happy Anniversary!

I would also be concerned that the GIA report is dated from 2013. Was the stone a trade in? It could potentially have damage to the girdle if it has been pre-loved. This would impact the price for sure.

Im hopeless I didnt even pick up on the date!

I just feel that there is a high mark up on the diamond my jeweller has advised me to get. I have been looking at one from James Allen https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/heart-shaped/2.01-carat-h-color-si2-clarity-sku-3878253

If anyone has time to have a look and give me some feedback and comparisons to the 1.7 specs I have posted that would be so helpful!

The JA stone that you linked is unavailable so I can't say what the price is compared to the screen capture that you shared, but most "brick and mortar" jewelry stores are going to be more expensive than online retailers, they just have much higher operating costs to recoup and can't compete with online in terms of price and selection.

I don't care for the JA stone that you selected. I think that the inclusions will be noticeable and the faceting is very chaotic.

@farrahlyn suggested a very pretty stone

Thanks octo, yes that diamond was beautiful but out of my price range unfortunately by the time I convert into AUD and pay 10% tax it works out around 17K for me however James Allen have put the one I posted on hold which is why it says sold and is $11,600 which is right at the top of my budget and I can’t got over that.

Appreciate you getting back to me! :twirl:

Thank you farrahlyn for searching for those comparisons. I do love the sparkly one you posted however it is out of my price range by the time I convert to AUD and add GST

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me

If you aren't under a specific deadline, is there some reason that you must pick between pretty much only these two stones so quickly? You first posted for feedback/advice just yesterday morning.

Fancy shapes are more specialized and cannot be picked solely by stats. Moreover, if you pick something hastily in an effort to avoid the "hassle" of finding a stone that has great sparkle, presence, and wows you, will you be satisfied that you have learned to distinguish which aspects that you like or (don't like) about this particular shape? Just cuz it's big, or an H, aren't the attributes that necessarily make stones amazing.

People above have given you feedback on both of the stones from which you are trying to choose. Others have selected options that could* be more amazing than the two you have in mind. They have explained some reasons for the differences and what they like and don't like in your two and the alternatives offered. Price, of course, is a big factor. And overseas import fees, another.

Please consider expanding your search beyond these several short hours. The people on here love helping to find beautiful diamonds (within budgets) for people all over the world. For a fancy, I personally wouldn't consider any stone without at least a video and ASET.

I sense your excitement to get this amazing gift for your anniversary. (Congrats on 10 years!).

I'll be following along as your journey unfolds.

I love the hearts in the inspiration rings, but I am not a fan of the facet patterns of either of the JA ones.

Firstly thank you for your lengthy response. I guess I just feel rushed and a tad pressured by the jeweller (that I now have doubts about). I don’t want her to be taking me for a ride financially.

I will call her in the morning and Ask for the aseat picture and hopefully a video just to give me some peace of mind.

The diamond she has in mind (1.7) doesn’t offer returns so if when it arrives and I don’t like it then I can’t get a refund on it. I guess I feel rushed because I obviously want to be happy with it. Maybe I will tel her to put things on hold untill I have explored other diamonds and am 100% on my decision.

Thanks again for your input I truely appreciate it.

The one on hold from JA has visible inclusions if you are okay with that. Also, looks like a feather by the girdle, I am not an expert so I will let the prosumers advise you on the stability of the diamond.
Original diamond - https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/heart-shaped/2.01-carat-h-color-si2-clarity-sku-3878253

I did see this one - potentially eyeclean and under your budget.
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/heart-shaped/1.80-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-sku-3653657

Thank you. I will have a look at it now. Appreciate your time in looking a diamond up for me thank you!

Your jeweler should call in the diamond for you to look at and evaluate in person, before you decide if you want it AND before you pay for it. By your description, it sounds like you are being asked to buy this stone, no returns possible, before seeing it. Walk away. You should have a stone you are 100% happy with!

Good one! Thanks what I will be saying to her tomorrow, my husband is spending what we consider a lot of money for this ring and I think the jeweller should be giving me as much peace of mind as possible.

I dont mind this one...I think it will have decent light return. The angle its at makes it difficult to see what's going on in the center. I think there is a good
chance it could* be eye-clean (ask James Allen if eye-clean and at what range.) On the other hand you may be able to see the inclusion just off the table
around 7 oclock? I imagine this stone probably has longer lower halves giving the center a more splintery look vs fatter facets. I think most people probably
prefer the fatter facets but thats a personal choice. Ask JA if you can get an Aset image. What is your budget?

Under no circumstance should you order a stone that is not returnable.
Most of the vendors we work with on-line have a 30 day return window
(for any reason). Like Krisking is saying...your Jeweler should be able to bring stones in for 3 days or so without you having to "buy" it first.

Thanks for the feedback tyty333. I think the reason she can’t bring them in for 3 days is because they purchase them probably from overseas and websites like JA and then add a markup to them.

I have found a diamond whoelaaer in Sydney which I’m hoping has diamond in stock that I can actually look at. I am all for online shopping but when it comes to diamonds and spending over 10K with no return option then that makes me nervous!

My budget would be 14K AUD for the diamond

I’m fussy with the shape of the heart I want to have a good 1.1 ratio which is where I’m getting stuck at. There is just so many things to consider when buying a diamond and I am feeling very overwhelmed. What I thought would be an exciting time has made me a bit of a mess to be honest lol

Take a step back and regroup, you are absolutely right this should be exciting. Take your time and wait for a stone that makes your heart sing, not ache.

I agree that your jeweler is pressuring you and I absolutely would not buy a stone with no return window. I feel like this jeweler is probably not a good fit and I would continue to explore other options. You may have to be patient and wait for the perfect stone to come along, but it's part of what makes your ring so special and exploring many options will help you to feel confident when the perfect stone presents itself.

Don't let anyone pressure you to make a decision until you are ready. And don't (please don't) spend thousands on something you cannot return. Omg. No. Not even "store credit" (cuz that'll keep you tied to a place in which you may no longer have confidence). Keep looking. Take a breath. This can be fun, but not if your jeweler (any jeweler) is putting pressure on you. These aren't the only two diamonds in the world. She is not the only jeweler in the world.

Not sure how far you are from Victoria, but Holloway diamonds has two shops there. The owner Garry Holloway invented the HCA. Might be worth a trip - call first so he can get some hearts in hand for the visit. See some other hearts in person. Or keep looking online.

You've gotten some really solid advice regarding your jeweler. don't rush this! You want to be happy with your ring and the way it was procured.

The 2.01 you posted is pretty nice. It's a shallow stone so it's a really nice size. The number of twinning wisps are slightly concerning but as tyty mentioned, it is possibly eye clean. I hope you asked for an ASET on it!

another one i found though it is going to be a bit smaller than the 2.01 H SI2
