I believe Garry Holloway said, "Your own personal preference may be for a diamond with an HCA score of 1.5 more rather than one with a lower score of say 0.5."

So my newbie question is, what''s the difference? How will a 1.5 look different to the eye than a .5? Or is the difference only noticed under magnification? Any help would be great...

Thanks.

There is a difference. Not a great one, but one that experienced eyes may appreciate more than a novice. However, in the end, the person who is wearing the diamond will grow used to the way it looks. At some point she might see that some other diamond appeals to her more....It may be brilliancy, maybe color, scintillation, etc. It might equate to the HCA score or it may not.

Diamonds with high HCA scores are very brilliant ones. They may be quite away from traditional Ideal Cuts, but they can be a great value and very attractive.

You may see it without magnification. Stones can have more or less contrast, larger or narrower facets, bigger and less or smaller and more flashes of color, etc. They still will be beautiful - just different.

Thanks for your answer, but can you be more specific? Is there a generalization; such as HCA .5 will have more contrast than a 1.7???

Thanks.
