I just purchased a stone with a HCA of 3.1 (attached), however it has a zero in light performance graded by AGS. I realized HCA is only a model, but the board really seems to use it as a yes/no too with no exceptions. I receive a lot of comfort in AGS's assessment of light performance. I hope that wasn't a mistake... Can some of you cut nuts take a look below and let me know what you think? Thanks again guys, Mike

HCA 3.1 (Very good on all four criteria)
AGS 0, including a 0 in light performance

HCA is a rejection tool, yes, but not for known excellent light performers, which you have with this diamond that is an AGS 0 and good IS. image.

I made the same mistake is disregarding a stone- BGD signature, AGS0 because it scored a 5 on HCA. :nono:

Once you have IS image & AGS 0 ideal, HCA becomes obsolete.

Stone looks fine.

Ditto Twinkle - HCA is by no means considered the end of the story, and anyone who uses it as bolded is simply misusing it. HCA helps you determine whether a stone is "likely worth further investigation" - it's a blunt weeding tool, and when you use it to help you narrow down an inventory of a hundred stones, you know that you are letting some slip through the cracks - but you've got to start somewhere.

I agree. I think the stone looks like a winner. How are you planning on setting it?

Thinking of the Harmony set at WF. Maybe just a traditional solitaire setting and the Harmony band...

Oh I love the Harmony. I personally would ask for the 'original' Harmony, it had an integrated head and was even more beautiful than the catalog version.

I think the Harmony set is a great choice. Plain Solitaires are lovely too, but I'd go for the set, personally.
