Hello - Still on the diamond search (Looking for 8.1mm+ RB, I/J VS2-SI2 (eye clean), excellent cut for under 15K). I have a stone on hold that is H&A but a tad smaller in diameter than I'd like. I was recommended this one by a vendor and wanted your thoughts. Initially I had not considered given it's HCA score but the proportions don't seem off. Unfortunately, the vendor does not have ASET/Idealscope images.

Your thoughts?

It is: 2.13 ct , 8.44-8.49 x 5.21 mm J/SI1, eye clean, GIA XXX, no fluorescence. Table 58, Depth 61.5, CA 35, PA 40.8, medium-slightly thick girdle.

Also, can you tell by a face up photo if a stone will appear milky based on fluorescence? I have found a great stone that is quite large w/ what appears to be an excellent cut. It is a J w/ strong fluorescence. By the look of the picture it doesn't seem milky or hazy --- but who knows? Should I avoid fluorescence if shopping online?

??
how did you get 2.5 on HCA? In addition, you did not attach any photo. Lastly, the stone has no fluorescence. You said you are looking for a stone with 8.1mm+ diameter and this stone is almost 8.5mm???

In most cases fluorescence doesn’t effect the stones . Only very strong in some rare cases. Usually it’s a plus in H I J stoned so it will help to counceal the color

LOL I calculated it wrong!! I have been trying to sort through 30 stones and my head is spinning! Okay so sounds like this may be a good buy. I was able to get some ASET images but they aren't quality pictures.

So now the question is, a 2.31 (8.4 mm) J/SI1 HCA <2 GIA XXX for 13,500 vs. a 2.08 (8.2 mm) J/VS2 H&A AGS0 for 14,600......which would you choose????

Can you post any images? If I had to strictly go off numbers alone, I would pick the AGS0 stone. But that’s just my personal comfort level and really I would never pick blind.

Yes - Attached are the 2 I am considering. The square image is 2.31 J/SI1 GIA XXX , the circle image is 2.08 J/VS2

Circle picture. 2.08 J VS

Thanks for your recommendation rockysalamader - could you share how you determined which one? Trying to learn!

I would also say the 2.08 J VS looks better, and would be my choice, just judging by the single picture.

Why?
1.) Arrows are nicer/ more well-defined. The 2.31 has very thin arrows which is typically caused by longer lower halves (above 80%). I'm personally not a fan of overly-thin arrows and prefer them to be fatter (like the second diamond).
2.) The 2.31 also appears to have some obstruction going on under the table and has slight asymmetry issues. 2.08 looks much better in this regard.

Hope that helps. :)
