I found a diamond with a HCA score of 0.9 with everything coming back excellent. I was sooo excited but the paragraph underneath read "Should sparkle beautifully and looks bigger than usual for its carat weight. Low HCA scores and bigger sized diamonds can appear dark when viewed up close, but these stones can be great for earrings and pendants..." So now I am confused. I thought the closer you get to zero the better the performance. Am I wrong?

The HCA is a rejection tool. Not really a selection tool.

Here is a PS link that explains it. Getting closer to zero isn't the goal.

post the numbers here a lot of combos under 1 are just fine.

This is not true. You want to score 2 or under (some even scoring in low 2s are still ok, IMO). Once you find a stone that scores
2 or under you need advanced images (aset, idealscope, H&A, etc.), up close pics, and videos to further the evaluation. Its NOT the
closer to 0 the better. There is some helpful information underneath where you enter the values for the HCA tool.

Just as important is you and others who will wear the diamond.
If you can focus from less than 25cm 10 inches you may find the stone looks dark because your head will block a lot o f the light.
But, like most people, if the closest you focus from is around 14 inches 45cm then you will not have much if any darkness.
