Color me beautiful puts everyone in a category or season. I am a spring but can cross into fall. Corals, earth tones, forest colors look best on me. Yellow gold is my friend. Off white/cream looks best.
Winters look great in primary colors and summers look good in pinks, blues, purples and both wear white metals. White white looks best.

Do you know what you are and do you wear the "appropriate" metal?

White metals look dead on my skin.

I went to have my colors done many years ago by a friend who was one of the original Color Me Beautiful consultants. She took a long look at me and said she wasn't even going to bother to drape me. "Just wear teal blue," she said. "And of course all shades of red."

Whenever I wear teal blue I radiate some kind of magical electric glow and strangers stop me on the street to tell me how great I look. Ditto most shades of red/pink/cyclamen/fuchsia. So I can't even remember what my season is; I just wear teal blue.

Of course I have a teal-blue zircon pendant, a couple of red garnet pendants and oh, a few small rubies -- just to go with my clothes.

Nope. I don't need to have my colors done to tell me what looks good on me. There are certain colors that I stay away from (in clothing, etc.), but as far as metals are concerned, I mix and match platinum, yellow gold and rose gold. I've never really looked at someone wearing a particular color of metal and thought to myself, "that person looks horrible in rose gold."

I had it done years ago, probably early eighties. I still have the little fold up thingy with the swatches. I am a winter. I think it's pretty accurate even still. I am not to sure about the metal thing. I have tons of yellow gold which I still like, but these days I gravitate towards the white metal. Mostly, because I like diamonds in white metals better, at least with the color diamonds I like. I think they have to be really white or golden to look their best in yellow. But I am sure that is just me.

I would say, though, that my favorite colors are turquoise and pink and that is probably more summer. Do you think your colors change as you age?

I never paid much attention to the gold/silver issue at all, because most of my pieces are too small to show up without the blingy stones, anyway. If I were wearing one of those gorgeous Indian wedding parures, then it might be an issue!

I went to a good little thing when we lived in Holland, given by a woman from Texas. She did colors as well as clothing styles best for your body type & coloring, and makeup tips for your individual face. Most of it confirmed that what I already liked is what she thought I should wear, thank goodness. The makeup part was great; I still do most of her suggestions.

Luv2sparkle, I think colors usually do change as you age. At least a little bit. Facial coloring changes -- fades to some extent & in some people (Caucasians) becomes more sallow. Black, for instance, doesn't look as good on some older women as it did when they were young. Sometimes yellows will bring out yellow in a complexion. I think pink always looks good because it reflects onto the face.

What about other races, do you find colors change with age?

I never had mine done, but I was a little kid in the 80s. I had a friend whose mother did colors and was always after my mother to have hers done. My mom had done some modeling and pageants so she was good with figuring out what to wear.

I have a question: if you aren't supposed to wear white metals, is it still ok to wear "white" diamonds? Or are you supposed to wear fancy colored diamonds???

And, just for fun, let's all take a minute to toast the fabulousness that was the 1980s:

Ah, the '80s!
My boyfriend's mother had her colors done back in the day as well, and then she sent us. I don't remember what I was - Summer I guess, but I still remember my boyfriend was a "strong Spring!"

I will say that I have wondered if my very fair SIL's would do better with RG rather than WG or Plat, but I think a lot of people choose the metal for the gem rather than their skin tone.

I am a Deep Winter, white metal for jewellery, cream/beige/brown/orange/etc. look dreadful on me.

Primary and secondary colours suit me, however, not too much yellow.

DK :))

I never have but I think it would be interesting!

Oh my gosh! I remember when the Avon lady still went door to door... I'm a spring!

Colors: Oh, those glorious '80s clothes! SO much better and more glam than all the imported blandness we get now. Yeah, I had my colors done. I'm between autumn and spring. I can wear some of each, but not all of either. Lucky for me, I sew and tailor. I bought mill ends at local fabric stores and made beautiful suits, coats, and career wear. Some evening wear, too, but didn't have too many events at which to wear it. Vogue, Burda, New Look patterns. Ah, the good old days. I really must move back to a city. I'm tired of all the country mud and crud.

I had mine done years ago, probably around 1981/82. I saw how a local consultant helped a friend re-do the interior of her house and decided to give it a go even though it was very pricey considering my puny salary at the time. This was back when women were really just entering into non-traditional fields, and most professional looks mimicked menswear: tweeds and pinstripes with lace or pastels added... styled that didn't suit me at all. The consultant said I was a fall/winter and directed me towards saturated jewel tones and clean, contemporary lines. I know her advice saved me a ton of frustration and a fortune in wardrobe mistakes! I since re-did my colors once in a fashion and style class I took at a community college, with much the same result. I shop my colors instinctively now, although I have broadened my range a bit.

As for metals - I wear either white or yellow. I don't bother with rose gold because it just melts into my skintone and doesn't do anything for me. :wink2:

No.

Sounds to me like another absurd scam to suck money out of gullible people.

All I care about is internal beauty ... who you are, what you do.

But Kenny it can't be absurd, she wrote a book about color for men as well.

I think I'm a winter or maybe a summer, but I'm not positive. I'm fair skinned (don't know about undertones though) with dark hair. I wear a lot of black, charcoal gray, burgundy/cranberry, plum, and dark blue/slate blue tops, and mostly black or khaki pants or dark jeans. What does that mean?

Yellow and olive colored clothes look awful on me, so I don't think I'm a spring or an autumn.

ETA: Monnie, you're cracking me up. I remember going with my mom to a CMB party, and I totally remember the books.

No way! Shirley you can't be serious! Actually I replied before you edited. Just being silly.

I'm with Laurie. Not only do I feel sure that aging changes which colors look good on you (after all, the color in your face fades when you age), but that altering your hair color changes which colors look good on you.

Some people go grey and that, in itself, changes what colors look good on them. Other people cover the grey by going blonde or going darker, and either one changes the colors that look good on them. I have experimented more than many people with hair color and I know that being black haired; chestnut haired; blonde; or red; alters what colors look good on me. Once in a doctor's office when I was much younger I was surprised to look in a mirror on a door and see that the blue paper gown looked stunning with my (dyed) blonde hair. A paper gown had certainly never looked good on me before!

Deb ;))

Oh that is funny, Deb! I started buying white metals because I liked them with diamonds, but also in the back of my mind, I thought that if I ever let my hair go gray, (not that there is one single fat chance of that happening), white metals would look better. LOL. I start to have a panic attack when I see a little bit of gray on my part line. But, just in case! :naughty:

You sound like a winter.

I'm actually quite surprised how many of you have heard of the book. I think most people instinctively know what colors look best on them and gravitate to those colors. There is one lady at church who always wears totally wrong colors. I just want to give her a make over!

We are not as serious about this as you think but there is a value in knowing your colors to look your best. btw, you can get this info for free.

I'm a summer. I think white metals look best on me.

This is too funny, I have so many CMB memories flooding back to me right now

I remember my friend Danielle's mother Debbie was a consultant of some sorts. There were all sorts of swatch books and lipsticks and I wanted to be a Winter so badly because it seemed SO much more glamorous and mysterious than boring old spring!

I've never had it done but I guess it's more instinctual. I have very pale fair skin, blue/slate grey eyes and ashy mid-brown hair.

Jewel tones look best on me so I wear a lot of blue/navy, emerald green, all reds and purple and cream. I do tend to wear a bit of black as it's slimming & easy but honestly it probably makes me look a bit goth if I wear it head-to-toe  All kinds of beige, browns, gold, yellow, pastels etc tend to look hidious on me. Silver makes my skin look really washed out so I always wear yellow/rose gold.

Anyone know what "season" that is?

I did a bunch of quizzes online and they said summer.

I did it way back when it was popular and it was right on target...winter! To this day I primarily wear those jewel tones...red, hot pink, royal blue, teal (turquoise in summer), purple, and black and white. That's what you'll see in my closet, and I want a ring in all those colors, too!

I did the thing online and it's badly flawed. It doesn't work well with multi-ethnic really mixed skin types.

I really could pick without taking a test because I already knew those were the best colors for me. I think most people can find their by thinking of the colors that are most flattering and then see the rest of the recommended colors. But if you looked in my closet, you'd see just a few dominating colors!

I will say that my daughter from China can wear the jewel colors like me, but she looks beautiful in pastels, too. So I don't think the online assessment could possibly cover every single shade of skin and hair color.
