I saw it tonight. It's beautifully acted, had me in tears!

I must admit, even as a Brit, I knew nothing about the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, or about Charles Grey. I am not sure how much of the movie was based on actual history but I would suspect a significant part (I googled it afterwards). In any case, it stirred up a lot of emotions in me, not least because of how oppressed women were in those days.

Not wishing to give too much away, I'd strongly suggest that you go and see it.

DH and I went to see it and I thought it was FANTASTIC. I bawled my eyes out too. And came out grateful to be in my own century. I think the moment that got me the most was the look on the doorman''s face during *that* scene (don''t want to give anything away). Totally made the sadness of the whole thing hit home. Oy.

Oh God, that was one of the most horrible scenes. I know exactly which one you''re talking about!

So sad, the whole thing and it made so *angry*!! Again, trying not to give too much away.

Yeah. Definitely an incredible movie though!

DH liked the costumes. He worries me sometimes.

Wow, I wasn''t sure many other people saw "The Duchess". We saw it Sunday night. It was really very very good. You''re right Phoenix, it left me angry for ALL that she went through, but also very conscious of the fact that an awful lot of women do similar things these days (in different ways) because of the times we live in and because of our survival instinct. I won''t give anything away either. I hope more of us see it so we can talk about it. It''s a very powerful and moving story. I think a person would have to be made of stone to not be moved by her story.

Funny you should say that!!

. My friend whom I went to see it with also commented on how beautiful the costumes were (which is really true). Apparently, this was before the French revolution (not sure if my friend was right about this - seems to be true though, I googled it also), and the revolution basically changed the way people dressed, just like World War II made a huge change on the way people dressed afterwards.

It definitely provoked a wide range or reactions, and I think it was done extremely well!

I just rented it and am planning on having a "Girl''s Night" with my Momma and Sister! I am excited to see it now that you guys are giving it such good reviews.

I haven''t seen the movie yet, but I read the book about a year ago. It''s a biography of Georgiana, so yes it is based on actual history (not having seen it, I would guess though that the movie does take some liberties for entertainment or artistic purposes). It was a very good book. ''m so glad that the movie is good, I''ve been wanting to see it ever since I heard that it was being made.

"G" as she was called back then (I thought her nickname was so cool for the time) can be researched easily through Wiki. Having nothing to do with the movie or the story... what interesting family lineage. Not only were Diana, Princess of Wales and Sarah, Duchess of York related to her (each in a very different way), now I understand what the news reporters were talking about years ago (when they were each married to a Windsor) about Diana and Sarah being related. I love aristocratic history. It''s so interesting.

My boyfriend's mom had been raving about The Duchess, so we both finally saw it last week. It was an excellent movie, albeit quite tragic. That one scene that some of you have alluded to was very.. alarming and despicable, to say the least

Georgiana was a very strong and fascinating woman, and I definitely plan on reading the book that the movie was based on

I really enjoyed reading the book a few years ago, and am looking forward to seeing the movie, though it sounds like I should expect it to be pretty tragic. I actually thought the book was kind of uplifting in that it really showed what an interesting and powerful political and historical figure she was.

It has its moments - but I definitely left there with my heart pulled out through my nose.

I saw it and thought it was a very good movie, too.

I also saw it, and thought it was very moving. I''m so glad we can get to know our husbands before we marry them!

I''d like to, but I sure wish they''d made it with someone else. I canNOT watch Keira Knightley.

I just saw it while on a plane today, and I thought it was pretty darn good. I didn''t have any idea what it was about when it started, but I was impressed.
