Just to have someone else buy it? That just happened to me and I wanted to co-miserate with someone else :)

awww so sorry, Not a diamond, but a gem though.

I stalked a James Allen diamond for a week, placed it on hold one evening, and when I woke up the next day they had sold it to someone else, despite it being held under my name.

Ugh, that always hurts. It happens to the best of us...

I didn''t know that was possible!

Good way to lose business, I''d think.

Yes. This one: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5848
I was too lazy to get off the sofa to get my credit card to put it on hold. The next morning it had been sold.

I never reveal what I am stalking till I have it.

Seems like bad luck to tell the world.
Lots of lurkers here that could read a good review and buy it.

Yes, I''ve lost out.....I feel your pain!

I''m stalking a diamond now that I won''t be able to afford for a few more years. I''m really hoping it''s still there when I have the money! I can''t share the link because I''m afraid someone will snatch it from under me.

Keep it quiet my dear, you are doing the right thing. This lurker poaching is getting to be common.

I''m doing this too right now.

Sounds like it happens all the time. Someone posts a diamond, gets the experts to weigh in and someone (lurker I assume) steals it before they get to it! Sad.

Maybe if you want feedback, but want to protect your chance to buy a particular diamond, you should hold back certain details like weight, color and vendor pics or exact price.
This makes it harder for the poachers to find it.

You can still get useful feedback by providing many other specs.

It does happen a lot, what we suggest is to post the usual details of the diamond for cut specs and images where applicable but hold off on the price unless a specific query and avoid posting the link, especially if the poster really wants a particular diamond. Colour and clarity are often needed as there can be issues with some clarity grades that need checking and colour advice. If a lurker is determined then they can still sometimes hunt them down but it makes it more difficult.

A little while ago one of the RT posters hunted down a lovely pair of huge stud earrings for a newbie, she did a great job with these diamonds, they matched perfectly, size, table, depth, spread.. even fluorescence! These diamonds were priced in the region of 20k, hours later both were sold, the original poster didn't even get a look in.

I agree with Moh and Lorelei that you shouldn''t post all the info. But maybe it''s not lurkers.. I do believe most of the business that comes to PS vendors is not via PS. So who knows, it could of just been terrible luck..

Sometimes Elle but often we see stones disappear so quickly when they have just been posted that I do think a fair amount of poaching goes on....With the stud earrings mentioned above also the two were not a normal make for cut and only someone who really knows what they were doing would match these, and someone who knows this type of diamonds were particularly suited for earrings - gone in a twinkling - the pair!

I keep stalking the 1.74 O IF on GOG''s website but I have no idea how I''d set something so unique so I went with a 1.74 K VS2 (med blue flour) from BGD instead.

I really hope someone snaps the O up soon, it is a phenomenal diamond!

You''re probably right. I just think it''s so strange. I mean if someone was looking for something in particular and lurks, why not just come out and ask for help in finding it? weirdos abound.

I know....I have spent time pondering that one.....

Oh, it may be hard for us to appreciate because we are obviously comfortable speaking here but lots of people are NOT comfortable speaking on the Internet.

It may be they fear loss of privacy, or don''t want to give their email address to register.

I''ve been watching that one too... mostly just with longing and drooling because I know my husband would never let me get another upgrade so soon! :-)

I think I''ve pretty much learned my lesson now! No more specifics from me!

I was looking at a JA stone and 4 days later it was gone!

I'm working with a vendor now on some stones that would compliment that purplish-pink emerald-cut diamond I bought recently, but mum's the word, for now.

Will do! Luckily for me, it''s a small stone in a not-too-popular cut. So it has a decent chance of still being here when it''s time to go for it.

A 1.1ct F VS1 emerald cut from ERD (well, virtual diamond but I was stalking it on ERD).

I think some vendors poach also. For instance these was this thread back in September that found an (elusive at the time) 'chunky' cushion:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/super-confusing-cushions.95877/

And lo and behold it pops up at a PS Vendor's Site with a large markup a short time later...
Gee thanks for thinking the best giraffe.

Large markup? I called that diamond in along with about 10-15 others from various supply houses. Perhaps I should be content to just make what it cost me to ship the diamonds in for inspection with no profit at all?

Just an FYI ... the features we look for in cushions (optical, structural & as well as other features) are impossible to ascertain via the information featured in the thread. I would not base a buying decision off of that.

Just so you are aware and I think it might be beneficial for all to know as well...

When we call in diamonds to consider purchasing for inventory and particularly in the world of fancies, and even more particular *cushions*, If I was looking to purchase for stock diamonds around the 8-12k zone we're looking roughly at about $50 a pop in shipping just to see one. Multiply that by 10-15 and you have the expense just to look. The important features we look for are just impossible to know or see via the general information given by suppliers (GIA, standard screen shot of a Sarin if they even have a Sarin) and base photography. To find *one* cushion many times requires calling in many diamonds. There are times I'd look at 20 and turn down all of em. Even knowing facilites that specialize in a certain facet structure (say chunkies for example) is no guarantee that each one is going to be the same from diamond to diamond. Why? Because 99.9% of these cutting facilities are *cutting for weight*. If any of you have seen the 2 videos I published entitled "41 Cushions" there are alot of diamonds in that clip that come from one particular facility and the lesson to be learned, or rather *seen* is that just because 2 diamonds share a certain facet structure does not mean their optics are going to be the same. I give lots of commentary in that video explaining exactly what I am seeing as I'm shooting the diamonds. Our new chunky cushion brand was developed because of the frustration I was experiencing trying to find the type of chunky flash I felt should accommodate the chunky facet structure. Sadly many chunky facet structures just don't have the life I know they can.

I didn't poach that diamond giraffe and I'm sorry that you think I lurk here to steal people's diamonds.
40.gif

Having said that however I will also tell you that I have seen diamonds posted which once I knew were passed on and I had access to did call in for inspection. Some I bought and many I haven't but when they are passed on they're open game and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We've also had many PS'rs have us call in diamonds they see online for us to inspect and we will sell it to them for the lowest price on the web as I have a price match guarantee.

Hope that clarifies some things for you giraffe.

Kind regards,
