I stalked a James Allen diamond for a week, placed it on hold one evening, and when I woke up the next day they had sold it to someone else, despite it being held under my name.

Keep it quiet my dear, you are doing the right thing. This lurker poaching is getting to be common.Date: 7/7/2009 11:57:37 PM

I''m stalking a diamond now that I won''t be able to afford for a few more years. I''m really hoping it''s still there when I have the money! I can''t share the link because I''m afraid someone will snatch it from under me.
I''m doing this too right now.Date: 7/7/2009 11:57:37 PM

It does happen a lot, what we suggest is to post the usual details of the diamond for cut specs and images where applicable but hold off on the price unless a specific query and avoid posting the link, especially if the poster really wants a particular diamond. Colour and clarity are often needed as there can be issues with some clarity grades that need checking and colour advice. If a lurker is determined then they can still sometimes hunt them down but it makes it more difficult.Date: 7/8/2009 12:43:23 PM

Sounds like it happens all the time. Someone posts a diamond, gets the experts to weigh in and someone (lurker I assume) steals it before they get to it! Sad.![]()

Sometimes Elle but often we see stones disappear so quickly when they have just been posted that I do think a fair amount of poaching goes on....With the stud earrings mentioned above also the two were not a normal make for cut and only someone who really knows what they were doing would match these, and someone who knows this type of diamonds were particularly suited for earrings - gone in a twinkling - the pair!Date: 7/8/2009 1:56:04 PM

I agree with Moh and Lorelei that you shouldn't post all the info. But maybe it's not lurkers.. I do believe most of the business that comes to PS vendors is not via PS. So who knows, it could of just been terrible luck..![]()
You''re probably right. I just think it''s so strange. I mean if someone was looking for something in particular and lurks, why not just come out and ask for help in finding it? weirdos abound.Date: 7/8/2009 2:09:50 PM

I keep stalking the 1.74 O IF on GOG''s website but I have no idea how I''d set something so unique so I went with a 1.74 K VS2 (med blue flour) from BGD instead.
I really hope someone snaps the O up soon, it is a phenomenal diamond!![]()

I think some vendors poach also. For instance these was this thread back in September that found an (elusive at the time) 'chunky' cushion:

And lo and behold it pops up at a PS Vendor's Site with a large markup a short time later...
