Has Omicron changed your Christmas Plans?

update we are canceling our plans we are staying home or only getting together with my son, daughter in law and grand daughter, they are vaxed and boosted THANK GOODNESS!!!!

Kudos for working to save lives!

Fiancee’s BIL just tested positive with no symptoms.
it’s here, y’all. Omicron is here.

Fiancée is positive now. She is still negative.

I was able to buy 5 binax home tests today at sam’s (limit 5) and found out I can submit a reimbursement for them with the HSA. $14 for a box of two.

We also just changed our plans. I texted Dh's side (5) to ask if they were all vaxed and boosted yesterday because I was hosting and planning indoor sit-down meal....and it was just crickets for over 24 hours. Today I received an email saying they were all non-vaxed and our niece and her fiance who were invited just tested positive!!

Needless to say, my kids are disappointed they won't see dad's side of the family, but we will still host my brother's family (4). Dh, my teens and I are all vaxed and boosted. My brother and his wife are vaxed and boosted. Even my brother's 2 kids who are 7 and 9 got vaccinated as soon as it was available to them.

I just spoke to my mom. She has a “bad cold.”
She says her throat is scratchy and her nose is running like a faucet. OMG

Darn it! I'm sorry to hear this. Please keep us updated.

I hope it remains a bad cold only before going away.

Lots of huggles!!!!!!!

We may have to. I'm hoping to know more tomorrow.
One of our students went home sick today. I work in a special ed classroom and while we knew she didn't feel well, it wasn't completely clear her symptoms. No fever or cough, but she did say her head hurt and it sounded like body aches.
School nurse didn't say she had to quarantine and she didn't contact trace.
The family is very responsible, so I'm hoping that they will have more info for us tomorrow.

I just found out the fiancée with 102 fever is only double jabbed. He had an appointment for the booster, but he got Covid first. he has the worst symptoms.

I'm sorry about this @MamaBee and I'm hoping your mother tests negative. I've read that the antigen test is very accurate for those who have symptoms.

That’s good to know @junebug. If she tests negstive on the antigen test on Friday and she feels better..do you think I should pick her up for Christmas Eve? I wish someone would tell me what to do. When you’re close to the situation..it’s hard to know what to do. Anyone please comment.

They said it was too early. :wall:

If she has symptoms, I don't know that it would be too early to test. I thought that once you had symptoms you should get tested right away. You could call her doctor, or yours, and ask about that. But I'm pretty sure they should test her. It seems to be that Omicron symptoms are very similar to cold symptoms and you need a test to tell the difference.

They checked with her doctor. Her doctor said to wait until Friday morning unless her symptoms get worse. I called her a little while ago. She said it seems to be tapering off.

Yes. We were going to have our in-laws over for Christmas Eve dinner but they decided to stay home since they will have just gotten off a plane from overseas the night before. We also had tickets to an NBA game on the 23rd but attending now seems like lunacy! We sold them on Stubhub (and lost $$$$$$$$$ in the process ).

We also skipped our dear friends' annual Christmas party this past Saturday that we look forward to every year. Better safe than sorry!

We are supposed to be going to MNF and I told DH no way am I going to an NFL game.

UCSD just announced that the first 2 weeks of instruction for the Winter Quarter Jan 3-17th is going to be back to online learning. That means my college boy will likely stay home an extra 2 weeks, Yay!

My plans are the same as before. Everyone I will be around is covid recovered, triple vaxed or double vaxed. My kids have been distance learning all this week. We have lots of rapid tests in case we need them.

@MamaBee how goes? Have been thinking about you!

@MamaBee, I would just take it day by day and see how she's doing on Friday. How is she feeling today? I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! Please keep us posted.

@MamaBee Hope your mother is negative and her symptoms don't get worse. Keep us posted.

@whitewave Hope your cousin's daughter stays negative and her Fiance' starts feeling better. I'm surprised he has such bad
symptoms after being double jabbed but I guess it depends on how long ago his last jab was, right?

Thank you @tyty333..She said her nose is less runny today. I don’t know why the doctor told the nurses to wait until Friday morning..but I’m not a doctor..

Thank you @junebug17. Her nose is less runny today. If she doesn’t have any symptoms on Friday and she tests negative after they test her..I’ll bring her here for Christmas Eve. I would test her again at the home again on Saturday before bringing her here for Christmas. I’m wondering if they’re short on tests there.

Ok @MamaBee, hopefully she tests negative on Friday. Keeping you and her in my thoughts, let us know how it's going.

Ok I have some Omicron facts and news you might find interesting. Some of this is from my research and some is from the latest hospital update.

Omicron is the dominant strain in Texas and Louisiana as well as many states.

Flu A is the dominant flu strain here and it’s also running rampant on college campuses (some campuses have been still in class because of hurricane Ida).

You can get flu and Covid at the same time.

Regeneron, the monoclonal antibody, is showing to be ineffective against Omicron.

There is a new antibody called “Sotrivimab” but supplies are greatly limited, so the chance of you getting it is very low.

Omicron has 50 mutations and 30 mutations of the spike protein.

From South Africa, it seems to be milder, but 1) it’s summer there and 2) 70% of their population has antibodies.

Thinking of both you and your mom @MamaBee. I'm hoping this is just a cold for her.

One of my nieces didn’t test positive the first day she was sick. She had the headache and bad body aches. I believe it was a day and a half after the symptoms started that the test was positive. She knew she had it because her 7 year old had tested positive days earlier.

@whitewave, I hope your family is beginning to feel better.

As far I understand, once one has symptoms the antigen tests are very accurate. Even the self tests are very accurate, if one administeres them correctly (DON'T POKE UPWARDS, GO BACKWARDS!!)

I know you are worried for everyone's safety!!! Big hugs to you and tons of dust you can spend Christmas with your mom !!

Thank you @kipari..Do you mean rub the swab towards the back of the nostril after it’s inserted? I was going to roll it around the whole inside of nostril..but not going too deep..I‘m going to test myself first to get the hang of it.
Big hugs back to you!

I’m sorry your niece was sick. I remember when you told us she had it. How long did it last for her @Calliecake? I hope she’s feeling 100% now.
That may be why they want to test my mom on Friday morning. She said her nose is barely running today..Its so strange! I’ve had one day colds before. Maybe it’s a cold…Who knows..I guess I’ll know more on Friday morning..I’m happy she’s feeling better today.
