It’s lunar New Years Eve today, and this year is “my” year. In Chinese tradition if it’s your year you wear something red 24/7 to ward off bad luck.

So I added this little lucky cat charm with its red ears and sign to my 24/7 baby gem akoya bracelet.

I never take it off and it always goes well with all my other pearls. Shown here with my tahitian and SoC (just bought from Yssie!)

I do miss the 3-day celebration, with lots of treats and nibbles that are made specifically for Chinese New Year.

I can't justify taking 3 days off when I have no one to visit, so only take Day 1 off to have a nice meal to celebrate.

Don't really celebrate any other festive days like Mid Autumn Festival as I don't have anyone to celebrate with.

It’s my once-a-year dumpling making time so I took a couple of days off too. Once a year because it’s so much hassle and prep work, but honestly nothing beats homemade. Plus I hide little treats like peanuts, then it’s like playing dumpling lottery!

@MakingTheGrade do you string the baby akoyas yourself? I bought a natural baby akoya strand from takahashi but haven’t figured out how to string them and I want a bracelet badly! My .65mm silk used for larger pearls did not fit through the tiny holes.
