I''m trying to decide if a halo setting will stand the test of time or end up having a dated look. What are PS member''s thoughts?

IMO...they are currently trendy...but they have been around for over a century. So...in several years will they be the in thing, quite possibly not. But halos have come and gone for a very long time so IMO it will never be dated look.

I think they are timeless.

They are timeless because they are an anrtique setting. They first started showing up here on PS back in 2003 and are still around. But they are partocularly trendy now so in 10 years it might make it obvious that your ring is from this period of time.

The style of halo also matters I think. Some are more classic than others.

In the end though, a subtle and classy piece of jewelry is *always* in style

I have a halo for a RHR and absolutely love it, but I do think they will eventually lose some popularity. I don’t mind getting something trendy that I love now though, a setting can always be changed and by the time they are out of style I may be ready for a change anyway.

I think they''re trendy. Even though they''ve been around for a long time, recently, they''re advertised everywhere, and IMO, more women are buying substantial rings than a century ago and overall more halos are out there.

One reason I would hesitate to buy a halo (even though they''re pretty) is because I shop at a grocery store (Fred Meyer - owned by Kroger''s) who has jewelery stores in their store and they''re always showing pictures of halo''d rings. Something about that turns me off.

If I were to go halo, I''d probably get something like jackets for my studs b/c those aren''t a permanent setting that I''d be wearing for years to come.

Totally trendy. Can''t wait to see what is in next! Any guesses?

Rounds, marquise, three stone, princess, halo......??????? (cushion? popular here but no one else knows what it is..)

Halos will be officially "out" when Tiffany discontinues the Legacy.

But I do think that the inexpensive halos with poorly cut melee will never look as good as the better made settings, and as the less expensive settings fall apart -- as they will -- people will reset into something else.

What''s next? Looking at the fashion trends in Europe, I think a return to bolder shapes with an emphasis on color and more metal.

I think a return to wider wedding bands with sleek solitaires (very 1960s-1970s). Or ornate wide bands with no solitaire, or the solitaire set in the wide band.

Bolder, bigger rings, fewer dainty styles. And a continuing interest by younger women in all things vintage -- except vintage will now mean ''60s, ''70s and ''80s. The interest in yellow gold and rose gold is just the start of this trend.

A resurgence in popularity of fancy cut stones, with an interest in bold, less common shapes, like pears and marquise cuts, in unusual combinations with other stones.

Cocktail rings. Big ones that will look a lot like what we used to call cluster rings.

But, what you''ll see at the mall from now until about 2015 is halos -- the non-PS crowd is just starting to adopt this trend in most of the country.

I love a good halo but I do think they are trendy. In my opinion the only style that is "timeless" is a round stone in a plain tiffany setting. Marquise--1960s, princess cuts--1980s, asschers--1990s (thanks to Sex in the City and JLo''s pink). But what does it matter. Get what you like.
