Halo setting question

Trying to save some possible embarrassment before I go ask my local jeweler. Is it at all possible to re-set a halo that currently holds a 6.5x6.5 mm stone with a 5.08x4.46 mm stone? The stone is currently set with 4 prongs and the metal is 14k white gold. I realize that even if it can be done there would be gaps between the stone and halo, but that would be okay as long as it would be secure. Just wanted to get an idea if that's an absolute "no" before wasting his time.

It depends on the setting. As you didn't post pics we can't tell you more than : It is possible it could be modified with a bezel or an airline. And the best person to tell you that would be a GOOD in-house bench. Which most jewelers do not have. So you would have to hunt around locally or send it to someone on PS that is open to that sort of thing.

That said, it might be expensive to do, if it can be done.
