I am no longer thinking of an upgrade for my 20th anniversary I am doing it!!!. Now comes the fun part I orginally was just going to change my tiffany style YG .9 ct I SII to a platinum setting end of story. Then I discovered this place and boy your guys opened my eyes big time. I then decided with DH blessing to get a new stone larger and ideal cut and have been having talks with Philip (Platinumsmith in Melbourne) on a Mark Morell style tiffany setting.
But then I started seeing more and more halos here and got to thinking (These are not very common in Oz) maybe this was something I needed to investigate further. After seeing a few folk here have their solitares remodelled into halos I have tossed up the idea of doing this too. But I need to know if there are any issues. I never ever ever take off my ring except to clean it and if I garden I wear gloves. Is a halo more likely to get ''stuff'' in it like soap scum etc? Also are they diffcult to wear again bearing in mind I would wear it 24/7.
Any insights woudl be great . Thanks

Hi! Be careful not to bump or hit the ring against anything, and check the setting and prongs at the end of every day. I''m scared of ultrasonic cleaners.

I love my halo, but I would never consider it a 24/7 kind of ring. Yes, it is definitely going to get more gunk in it than a solitaire. In addition, the halo adds significantly to the size of any center stone, and you might not find it to be comfortable 24/7. Wearing a ring with a pave halo 24/7 is probably asking for trouble. Those tiny stones will not stay secure for very long. Just my 2 cents.

If you''re going to wear it 24/7 you might want to look into a channel set, thicker shank for the ring or modify the design somewhat. I personally don''t wear mine 24/7 because the band on my ring is very delicate. I don''t sleep with it on, and I don''t wear it if there''s even a slight possibility something could happen to it. This means for the most part I''m usually wearing it, but I am very cognizant of the fact that it is on and I am careful with it.

I have a pave halo with a 2mm band ering- not married yet (2.5 months!) so I don''t know about the wedding ring itself, but I tend to take the ering off to clean and cook. I leave it on when I go to the gym just because I go straight from work and I''d rather wear it than leave it in a locker or my car. I''ve only had mine a few months but so far, so good. It''s 18k white gold with a highly polished finish and I haven''t even really scratched it yet. I think I''d be as careful with any ring, halo or not, and I so love my halo that I can''t imagine a ring without it now. I just figure it''s ensured and if something happens then maybe we upgrade a bit!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I have the Ritani Endless Love halo (see avatar) and I''m pretty much a 24/7 ring wearer also. So far, no problems whatsoever with the micropave stones. I use the Sharper Image ultrasonic cleaner pretty much every other day, and no problems with that either.

I used to be much rougher on my ring when it was in its original Scott Kay setting...but since I changed it to the halo setting, I have to admit that I am "nicer" to it. I take it off when I wash dishes and go to the gym (and I think I''ll be gripping anything hard). I do wear it to sleep though. HTH.

Thanks for all your replies. I think that realisticly I am not going to be someone that will be responsible enough to care for a halo. I have had my present solitaire for 20 years and I never ever ever take it off. Not in the shower not at night not in the garden This ring is on my finger 24/7.
I am hopeless at losing things and I have a 14 year old that likes to ''borrow'' my other jewellery so I shudder at the thought of her helping herself to my halo.
I am meeting with Platinumsmithe in a few weeks to talk about my upgrade so we will see his take. I now back to considering a Mark Morell style with a 1.2- 1.6 stone
