I have 2.8 carat diamond which I want to set in a Halo setting. I thought I wanted to put 10p point diamonds around the halo but am concerned it will take away from the center stone. My ring size is 3.5; I like a lot of bling.

Is there a proportion of center stone size to side stones which will make the ring look pretty and not gaudy or cheap? Alternatively, what should be the maximum size for the halo stones?

Thanks in advance.

Well, you have certainly come to the right place! I, personally, think that larger stones such as 10 pointers would not look good at all around a 2.8 carat diamond, especially on a size 3.5 finger! Most of the beautiful halos here have been made with smaller pave, and it would still be very huge on your finger. Here is an outstanding example of a beautiful halo:

This one is actually Frankie's mother's ring (2.6 ct. diamond, size 4 3/4) which was remade by Steven Kirsch, and I really like this style:

10 point stones would be very, very large around a 2.8 center regardless of your ring size. Add to that your size 3.5 and I think you probably wouldn't have enough finger real estate. Most halo stone's are tiny, some less than 1 pointers. I'd suggest going an trying on a few rings with different styles of halo's etc. so you can get a really good idea of how they look in person and how you like the look on your hand.

Ditto! As much as you loveee bling, you probably will not like the look of 10 pointers around your stone! What you WILL like may vary though and you may in fact like a little bigger halo than most, but you should def follow mrssalvo's advice in visiting different vendors with a variety of halo styles, giving you a better perspective into actual melee sizes. Best of luck =)
