This may be out in left field, but have you considered a sapphire?

And i know i know its not a diamond so i may be barking up the wrong tree, but would you be happier to get just an enormous colored stone with side stones or a halo? It seems like you are concerned about coverage and I feel like a 5 ct halo or a 6 ct or whathave you will really only combat DDS so much. maybe something different but with a LOT of size might be the answer.

That ring quite likely would cost a LOT more than a Holly! Must have gone to a home in one of the oil-rich countries. And someone must have a huge finger to pull that off!

Nielssel- Many good quality sapphires cost more then diamonds so I'm not sure buying a huge sapphire will help out Phoenix in the $$ area.

Phoenix, I just looked back at your other thread with hand pics of Holly, and that diamond is HUMONGOUS on your little size 4 finger! I am all for you getting a spectacular setting, but I cannot fathom a larger diamond on that finger!!!! I can't even imagine how much more huge it would be with a halo! But seriously, it sounds like a magnificent setting is what you really need to make Holly complete (agreeing with Yssie).

I am super nervous that you're eventually going to hit a mark where you think it's too big and looks gaudy and you don't like it anymore...I know that's blasphemous on this site, but it's a thought.

I'll be the voice of sort-of-dissent - I didn't realise that I could be so completely satisfied with my stone until I put it into a setting that makes me melt. I wouldn't change a thing about my stone - not size, not proportions, nothing! I think that some people are just wired differently - I *need* to love the whole package to be satisfied with any one part of it, stone or setting, but once I find that combo... would an elaborate setting have that same effect on you Phoenix? Or is size really the core of the problem? You're the only one who can answer that but goodness knows splurging on a setting would be a heck of a lot cheaper than upgrading again

Yssie, I am soooo happy for you and that 5-stone of your is truly belissima!

I really dunno, to be honest. I will need to think it through very carefully before parting with any money.

As I mentioned before, even if I don't do anything, that'll be fine too. Just wanted to throw all possibilities out there, evaluate each and see which one would make the most sense, emotionally, financially etc. (the financial perspective obviously bearing more weight). At the end of the day, it might make more sense to put that money toward another investment. We shall see..

Hubba hubba, that blue one is HUUUUGE!!

I am not a huge lover of blue or purple sapphires I am afraid. I mean they'er gorgeous and I do generally enjoy looking at blue sapphires on other ladies' hands, but not so much wearing them on mine (am nore into diamonds, pink sapphires and velvelty green emeralds).

Look at all this drama Holly is causing you. She's just a ball of stress. Give her to me and you will see how awesome it will feel. That way you won't even have to worry about putting her in a halo!

i recently have my 1.2 GIA F haloed with D/E melees and boy is it my imagination... the center stone seems 2 color grade lowered than before. Perhaps I should have used F/G stones? Anyways, Phoenix, have you considered what color side stones/melees you'd be using? You might want to put them side by side with Holly to be sure Holly likes her new neighbors. Otherwise, can't wait to see the new look.
