This is the best pic I could find of the Daniel K Rosebud in profile. I also included a Leon that I hadn't seen before that is pretty similar. I love a thin delicate halo exquisitely made - you can't go wrong with that at all! -
and I also think the rosebud style is gorgeous. It gives the size bump of a halo but in a different way. Whatever you choose will be spectacular!





And I don't know why I have so many pictures saved! I'm really a touch obsessed with jewelry (come to the right place huh?). Just glad I can finally put it to use! I love really special unique settings. I don't worry that I'd tire of something different. It's a signature piece. Personally, I am too hard on my jewelry for pave on an everyday ring. I'm hoping to someday have a spectacular colored stone ring with awesome design features and pave to wear for fancy occasions. A girl can dream!

Phoenix... recently I reset my 3.33c pebble (compared to Holly) into a vintage setting that has 8 prongs, cathedral arms and a higher/raised crown type basket.

It makes my stone look much bigger than before when it was in a simple 6 prong Tiffany style solitaire. I'm not sure what you have your stone in now but the change (to me) is astounding. Others have commented on my ring more now and I see people's eyes go to it whereas before they may not have. It might be something about the 8 prongs or the raised shoulders bringing the stone up or a comb of both, who knows, but I really recommend thinking about a setting change before halo'ing. Someone posted a vintage style setting with pave that looks similar to mine I think on page 2 that I think would work. Anyway just an option and it might be a heck of a lot cheaper than 5-8k to halo.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of the how low can you go settings either - they don't leave enough room for the elaborate shoulder & gallery curves that I usually like!

Though given no other option I'm sure I could make it work with a 5carater

Phoenix what do you think of the very popular Emilya? It's exactly the classic look I've always thought you go for.

YAY for Venice! What a lovely name. How did you come up with Venice, Sarah?

I think that's a great idea (pat on my own back as well, he he ) to put Venice into a temp setting whilst you're working out a more permanent home for her, and also whilst you're trying to decide what to do with your other ring.

Too make a long story short it has to do with a vacation my DH and I took with our friends in May/June to Italy. Our friends are awesome and didn't mind me pulling them into every single jewelry shop we could find for me to look. Since we are all military all the guys have call signs and it is a cutom to give the wives call signs as well. The big joke was I didn't have one, but when I found the diamond that I was looking then my diamond would have the call sign "Venice" because of how I dragged all of these people all over Italy looking for the diamond of my dreams. Venice was specific because I kept saying I wanted something dramatic and romantic, which everyone associates to that city.

That's FANTASTIC! Yay!

Mara, I ADORE your new stone and settng!

Mara, Laila, Sarah and Yssie, Holly is currrently already set 1mm higher than how Leon normally sets his rings. That was one of the specific requests I made; and I love being able to see the pavillion very clearly and it does indeed make the stone look that little bit bigger (than otherwise, I'd imagine).

Ysssie, I love the Emilya but am not yet sure how I'd like to set Holly. I'd def like to incorporate some of the design features from the images Rosebloom kindly posted. Some of the designs from Mike R's website really appeal to me too. Freke Child's suggestion for graduating colour changes sounds pretty awesome as well. If I was to go with Mike R, I'd imagine I'd have to give him a fairly free rein. I'd have to talk to Mike first to see how our ideas gel together. Would also have to consider how much money I'd really want to spend. What I *do* know is that I'd like the new setting to be different from anything I've seen and for it to be very unique. Either I'd do that or not do anything at all, and if it's the latter that wouldn't be wrong.

Phoneix I think the Emilya is going to be a little too traditional or plain for what you are looking for. My current ering is set in an Emilya and while I LOVE it, it doesn't have that hint of surprise I think we are both leaning towards.

Venice is being set in the Rosebud currently as her temp setting. DS brought that setting to my attention in another thread where I requested settings so I might have more to say about it once I see it on my own diamond, but I really doubt it will be it's forever home as I just puffy heart love halos!!! That and DSS is quick with me.

My new cushion is 10.?? x 11??mm so it really won't be that much bigger in regards to finger coversage. Unless I halo the OMC as well, I'm not sure there will be a huge size difference.

I feel like if you're not keeping this stone and setting forever, that putting this stone into a really elaborate or gorgeous Robinson or otherwise setting is really wasted....I think I said that already but I am going to repeat it. Don't put the money and effort into it if you're just going to trade this stone back in in a year.

I mean, I'm not trying to freak you out, I just think throwing money at something isn't worth doing if it's not something you'll love and wear, and most importantly, keep. I am not dissatistied, don't get me wrong. I am happy with what I have but you know, you always want more, kwim? Perhaps I should stay off PS and see how it is. At this moment, I say not but I've learned, from past experience, to never say never!

In any case, I DON"T have a vast collection now. A lot of my diamonds have already been sold/ put up for sale. My goal now is to have fewer but larger pieces. I do wear more than one ering though. What can I say, variety is the spice of life, lol! and not that I have a lot of spice at the moment or plan to. I value quality over quantity, I don't want to own 20-30 pieces , I'd much rather have 3-5 pieces that I really enjoy, different looks for different occasions and mood change.

The same is true with our investment portfolio for example, we have fewer quality things that we treasure and which I know will serve us well later on in life.

You may or may not understand, not that I am asking understanding from anyone! PS is a lot of fun, I don't take too much to heart, to be honest.

OH you do NOT need to explain yourself at all. To me or anyone on here. I regret saying a word right now. No need to justify it! Your funds and your pieces are strictly for you and yourself to make decisions about. We just live vicariously through you!!! I just envy the ability to have a piece of this caliber. Not that my sanity could handle it. Or my eyesight.

MY original point of the post was that I just wanted to make sure I threw that out about the amount for only 1mm. It's just...a LOOOOT of money for such a TINY step up in visual size in the overall look. And that's, to me, not really worth it and obviuosly you see that same point. But you have to be happy with the coverage. And if haloing this one makes you happy with THIS one enough to keep it for a long time, it's worth it, but not if it's going to only temporarily scratch the itch and in a year you're going to want a bigger stone again. Then it's kind of a wasted effort, and wasted funds.

I'll be the voice of sort-of-dissent - I didn't realise that I could be so completely satisfied with my stone until I put it into a setting that makes me melt. I wouldn't change a thing about my stone - not size, not proportions, nothing! I think that some people are just wired differently - I *need* to love the whole package to be satisfied with any one part of it, stone or setting, but once I find that combo... would an elaborate setting have that same effect on you Phoenix? Or is size really the core of the problem? You're the only one who can answer that but goodness knows splurging on a setting would be a heck of a lot cheaper than upgrading again

I think a halo will make the stone look much bigger, and the halo setting will be faaar cheaper than upgrading to a 6+ carat diamond!
