OKay, I knew it was a possibility, but the reality has me bummed. My half eternity band is scratching up my prongs on my e-ring something fierce and it makes me not want to wear them together

Especially once I reset and have a really purdy setting.

What do you ladies who wear eternity/half eternity bands with a solitaire do about this? I don''t want to wear a spacer.

Did you rest? Find a different diamond band? Get a new solitaire that doesn''t get scratched??

what''s the damage dreamer?

do you have a pic?

logic says its only going to get worse though if you continue to wear them together.

you need a band that doesnt put the diamonds in contact wih your ering at all. metal against metal only.

those rocks are pretty hard after all!

Hey DD,,, arggh PS ate my post...

Ok, here is the short version, you have 5 pointers right? do you like bezel? you know adwar has a cast out there, with the remaining circles, you can have that filled in instead of putting more diamonds in to save on cost, You might find that it is a really nice cost effective approach -instead of buying a whole other ring. I had mine done by Michael E of Gemshoppe and he was very very reasonable! get a couple of quotes for sure, though, he recycled my ring, gave me scrap credit. So sorry it happend. FWIW, my channel setting after five years of wearing it non stop with my first e-ring also ate away the gold of my e-ring (metal to metal contact), just the friction and rubbing over time really showed a noticeable mark and indentation on my e-ring although it may not be noticeable to other but upon closer examination it is very noticeble to my eyes, nothing I can think of other than soldering will stop this type of wearing away even with the most protected type of setting imo.

No picture, it is scratching on the lower part of the prongs where they touch the diamond girdles occassionally.

Many PSers wear these types of bands, I guess I wondered what their solution was or if they just don't give a hoot about the slight damage!

D&T It crossed my mind, I am familiar with that bezel option. I really like the look of a shared prong band though

I look forward to seeing yours, I am curious about the proportions.

Hi, Dreamer, Last summer -- 3 diamonds ago! -- when I had my Vatche platinum solitaire, I bought a pretty half-eternity band from a local vendor. Within a week the prongs on my Vatche were scratched from the eternity, even thought I was careful not to wear it to bed, etc. I was still in my return period, so I took the ring back. Before I returned it (I really liked the ring, and it was a good price) I asked the owner if he could recommend a solution, and he said the only thing that would prevent it would be to solder them together to keep them from spinning. Ugh. so I returned the ring. I just don't know if there's a good way around this problem.

I guess it's why Leon says wear your rings separately, but for me I really liked the look of a plain solitaire with the half eternity.

ETA: Maybe a custom super-thin (flat) spacer? Like a super-thin washer?

forgot to mention that if you go on etsy and type in thin stacking ring, you'll find a bunch shows up for very inexpesive and very very thin as well less than 1mm. Try out a silver ring first and see if you can stand wearing stacking ring along side the band before making any drastic expensive changes.

I have a half eternity with 6-pointers and unfortunately could NOT find any solution other than a spacer. I also thought about getting a bezeled ring because I liked that option more than a channel-set ring, but I like to wear my wedding band by itself and just really prefer the look of shared prong. I wish I had a solution for you because I definitely feel your pain.

Dreamer, I am so sorry to hear about your issue-what a bummer.

I am looking at two eternity bands to wear with my solitaire and I love the look of the shared prong bands. I was advised by some PS''rs about the possibility of the girdles on the eternity diamonds damaging my solitaire. I recently contacted Lesley at BGD and asked her if she had a solution. She sent me a link to BGD''s bead set eternity which is similar to the shared prong version. She tells me that her daughter has the bead set eternity and the diamonds don''t damage her solitaire. Here''s a link to the ring: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5433

How do you feel about soldering?

I like that solution, though of course it would cost more money

dreamer, I had this happen too..... My Facets eternity is 3.38 and those babies ate at the prongs... I bought a Tiffany Legacy band, it''s bead set, but has those channel sides, so no more damage.. I wear the eternity band with the ering for special times. I also wear the eternity alone and give the ering a rest...

I also just bought a channel set princess cut eternity band, over 3 carats... I don''t want to be tempted to wear the Facets with my ering... It did a lot of damage... Grrr but wasn''t an innocent party... I knew it could happen...
But I don''t wear them 24/7, so I said fine, it''s a risk I will take.

I only wear them when out of the house... Funny how those suckers can really do the damage.

It''s a PITA. I didn''t want a spacer either. I have the hands of a first grader, they are really small. So I can''t pile on a bunch of rings.

DD can, she has those long piano long looking fingers, and she stacks eternity bands like crazy...

Makes me want finger extensions...

I am not much into stacking. My hands are not small, but my fingers are shortish and not slim enough to stack.

I wonder if I am going to have to bit the bullet and get a bead set band or one like the one Gayletmom posted.

I knew going in this could happen. I suppose I could just not care... and I don''t really care about this setting, but my next will be a nicer one and I want it to last longer.

I didn''t notice this issue until I wore my diamond band a bunch in a few weeks period. Usually I only wear it 2-3 times a week and I didin''t notice anything with that level of wear. Also, this new head is shaped differently and I think somehow overhangs more... anyway, poopy news.

Sorry to hear this dreamer, I know it''s not what you want to hear but have you thought of wearing it on its own on your right hand so that you still get to enjoy it and not injure your e-ring?

I agree with a very thin spacer - I got a 1mm ring from etsy and it''s so delicate :)
