I am looking to get a half carat or so round diamond pendant for an upcoming present for someone. I want a very simple white gold setting. Do double rabbit ears prevent the stone flipping more than a single bail? Should it be 4 or 6 prongs? I want to keep the cost reasonable, but still buy a decent stone. Which vendors should I look at? Do any good vendors have preset ones, or do I select the diamond & setting? The recipient is in a foreign country for now, so I need a vendor who will ship there and has great customer service. Thanks so much.

I’ve done a 4 prong and 6 prong sliding pendant and both have flipped, which drove me mad to the point of selling both. I was told a bale would solve that issue.

In my search for options for a sapphire I’m trying to set I did find these:

I think they’re from Stuller and that a local jeweler could then set the diamond for you. This way is way more cost efficient than the recent quote I got for a custom but simple sliding pendant.

I would buy the stone from an online vendor who also offers settings and do it all one stop. You choose the stone and setting. Make sure they ship where you want.

For that size I would prefer 4 prongs. Good luck!

Its usually better to pick your stone and let the vendor set it. That way, you control what you get. You would have to check
each vendor to ensure they ship to the foreign country you need it shipped to.

If you give us more details we might be able to give more info. Location, budget, etc...I also prefer 4 prongs on half carats.

Thank you so much for your help, dear friends!! The gift is needed for the late fall, so I think I will be shortly asking if you knowledgeable people can help me pick a stone.

I recently set a half carat diamond so I reviewed a lot of threads on the topic. You should consider whether you want a fixed or slider style pendant and whether you want prongs or bezel. Those are the main two decisions.
