hehehe,

I just went to meet a local diamond dealer in my area.. Just to
see if things in the local market have changed in the past months.
He presents himself as someone who''s selling mostly to the trade...
He presented me a couple of stones, all mounted.
In 5 minutes he was able to get me the clarity, color and cut grade of all
the stones.
What a guy he is, I was thinking in my head.......

Two stones were very badly cut, total blackness under the table,
thick girdles,etc..

He told me that one of them was an "I" color... hahaaah
I looked at it from the side, and the crown was so yellow... not an "I"
maybe an "L"..

The last one was the most beautiful one... However, he told me
he was sure it was a 90 pointer.... how can you tell that with
a stone that is mounted???? the only reason it was a 90 was
that at this size, there''s a price jump if you compare to a 89...

Oh and by the way, one of the stone was an IF for him... When I started
looking at it and told him there were a lot of crap in the pavilion
just under the surface, he started to argue and said that I had to
trust him, that we had to talk about something else (so to put my
attention on something else, not the stone I was looking at).
And when I started talking about angles, he said to me that certif
are just for dealers who doesnt know what is a beautiful diamond...

So my advice would not to go locally unless you find someone you
can trust.... and believe me there are some... like me

kidding aside, i think it is great that consumers keep jewelers on their toes. maybe it will prompt them to eventually realize that customers are getting smarter, especially with the continued acceptance of the internet as a 'research' tool. i read an article recently about jewelry and it did note that people are asking more questions and come to the jewelers table armed with more information, and that is a good thing.

Thats a scary story, but so true in many cases.

Let this be a learning lesson, for all of us.

What upsets me, is that there are uninformed people whom are falling for it every day.

I just find a gorgeous stone from a local jeweller.... HCA around 2.3.... 25% off RAP...
Everything was confirmed by an independant jeweller....

GIA RB H VS1 .84 Table 62 (60 by the independant jeweller), total depth 61
crown 34o, pav 43%, no culet, girdle faceted med to thick (medium according to the gemmologist).....
Can someone run a diamondcalc on it and present me some pictures of
light leakage???

This stone is simply beautiful
