Hi all. I have been absorbing information for about 2 weeks and finally feel up to speed enough to post my question.

First, background information: When packing for my "girls vacation" I went to grab my wedding and engagement rings out of my jewelry box and discovered that the ring box and the rings were missing. I really needed to get them resized (can you believe they were size 3.5?), up to at least a 4 so I hardly ever wore them. But I thought since I was going on vacation without my husband, it would be a good idea to wear them. I don't even remember the last time I wore them, and have had contractors, housekeepers, babysitters, etc. in and out of my house for the past year. Of course, I can't accuse every one of them of stealing it, but it does make me realize how naive I have been to leave them there. The rings were insured and I have filed a claim and am just waiting to hear the settlement amount.

The bad news is they were diamonds that were handed down to me from my paternal grandmother's side.

The good news is I was thinking of upgrading but still incorporating the diamonds into the new ring, but now that is not possible. But again to look on the bright side, I get to really pick what I want from the ground up.

So, in doing my research I really like the look of the Tiffany Novo cushion (not necessarily the accompanying band) and H & A cushion.

The setting I like is the newest De Beers engagement ring called "The Promise" However, De Beers typically only uses round brilliants. I have inquired as to whether they can use cushions and they are supposed to get to me.

Hopefully my attaching the picture of this setting worked, if not here is the link: http://www.debeers.com/Engagement-Rings/The-Promise/invt/j1fd01b10p&bklist=icat,6,shop,toprings,ncrings,ringsengagement,j1fd01b10p

So my questions are:

1) Can anyone replicate something similar (with the proper modifications so as to not tread on De Beers proprietary design) using a H & A cushion?

2) If De Beers says they can do the setting with a cushion, is their cushion likely to look way different from the cushion look I have come to love in the Novo and H & A. When I talk to them, they just say that all their diamonds are cut to be top performers. I do not live near a De Beers store, so I can't walk in to check them out. I would need to work a visit in when I travel to either NJ, DC or Dallas where I have a family member living.

3) I love GOG, but they don't currently have quite the carat size I am looking for which is around 1.2 - 1.3. With size 4 fingers I really don't think I want to go any larger, and not sure if I will be satisfied going much smaller? Is there any other source for diamonds with a similar look?

Thanks for any and all feedback!

Hello and welcome! I am sorry to hear of your loss but glad that you are able to move forward with the replacement.

Did you call GOG and ask directly about them sourcing some cushion stones for you? I didn''t know if you had spoken with them or just looked on their website.

Mark at Engagement Rings Direct has been a good source of cushion stones for lots of folks on PS. You can google his website and give him a call to describe exactly what you are looking for.

As for the setting, I''m quite sure it can be custom made to incorporate a cushion stone. You are quite right that they can''t copy it down to every last detail but they can come close.

If DeBeers can put a cushion in the mounting, I''m quite sure they will find some nice stones for you. I don''t know how competetive they are with their pricing but it never hurts to find stones from multiple sources so that you can compare.

Ditto MGR.

Thanks for the reponses. Do you have a recommendation as to what jeweler I might turn to for producing a replica (with modifications)?

I did call GOG and they were very helpful. I have not yet contacted ERD, but will do so.

Do B&M jewelers (like DeBeers or Tiffany''s) provide the detailed AGI/AGS reports and the ASET, Facet structure diagram or Symmetry, Polish, Cut grades? Or do they just have the company line that they "have the highest quality diamonds cut for maximum brilliance"?

Thank you!

Yes they can that design is relatively simple from the front. It won''t be exactly the same

2) If De Beers says they can do the setting with a cushion, is their cushion likely to look way different from the cushion look I have come to love in the Novo and H & A. Yes it will unless they source for you a Square Cushion Hearts and Arrows. I think De Beers is overpriced if you do consider them make sure to bargain with them and know the GOG price for a similar stone.

Talk to Jon at GOG, or speak to Mark at ERD both can source the Square Cushion HA and find out how long and how much to get one cut to your exact specs.
Also take a look at this thread
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-is-the-tiffany-ring-worth-it.123192/, depending upon what you like you could also get a Square 8 main Cushion Brilliant its similar but not exactly the same same contrast, fire and arrows but many things are similar like outline, 8 pavillion mains, facet structure etc.

Thanks for any and all feedback!

You should be able to get a certificate from DeBeer''s or Tiffany''s.
No ASET, Certificate won''t likely come from AGS and won''t include cut grading though.

You can''t tell cushion light performance from the numbers, or polish and cut grades so it isn''t going to helpmuch. You could buy a handheld ASET and look at the stones yourself at the store. BUt you will be paying a huge premium to buy from either of those stores for the same quality diamond. You might want to ask DeBeers if they will set a stone purchased elsewhere and how much. Tiffany''s won''t do it.

Thanks CCL. Would love to just go with a customized ring and avoid the cost of "the name". Any suggestions on who to go with?

Any used Laura Powers of Atlanta? She is not too far away from me and seems to do good custom work (based on her gallery).

Thank you.

Welcome, Roxie. There are several jewelers that specialize in custom work and have had repeated good reports from PS customers (who tend to be a pretty picky lot). Brian Gavin Diamonds does beautiful work, also White Flash, Leon Mege (though I don''t think he''ll copy someone else''s design), Single Stone, etc. There are many that I am sure I am missing. Try a search on the forums for "custom" and you''ll get lots of names and some tips, too. Happy hunting!

What kind of head does this original design have? four prong, prong style, etc... any details would be MUCH appreciated!
Sorry, am new on the site and in the market for a ring and this is the exact design I want

Thanks everyone
