Hello Everyone!

First off let me say at this forum is a great resouce and I really appreciate the help from all its members!

I am looking for the perfect stone for an engagement ring for my girlfriend of two years. I can tell you that she is not very picky but I still want to get the best stone I can afford for her! I am looking for a cushion cut diamond with these specs.

Color: F,G,H I prefer a G
Clarity: Eye Clean
Weight: Around 1.0 but I could go smaller or larger if the stone is right

One more requirement is that the diamond is as close to square as possible. I don''t think she likes the more rectangular cushions.

Here is a good example of what I am looking for. Would appreciate all your comments and suggestions of other stones.

My budget for the stone is around $4000 but would spend up to $5000 for the right rock. Spending less is always good too if it still meets my requirements.

Thanks in advance for the help. Let''s get me engaged!

I don''t know a lot, and am in a similar position as you are (trying to find the best rock for the money etc.) But I would try to drop down in size to try and find a better cut. I think you might be happier that way.

I think that is good advice. I would rather have the stone look great than be slightly larger in size.

Hi doublestein

The thing is with BN they don't provide photos of their diamonds and with fancy shapes such as cushions you can't buy them without in my opinion. I would stick to vendors who offer images and all the info you need in order to know exactly what you are buying.

I would first of all suggest you watch this video as you will learn a lot, this was made especially for new cushion cut buyers.

consumers guide to buying a cushion cut diamond

This will help you decide what sort of cushion you want, the two main types are modern cushions and the more vintage style with the chunky faceting, this video will show you both types.

www.goodoldgold.com stock various cushions of both styles so I would suggest you see what they have to offer. Also;

www.briangavindiamonds.com have their new branded cushion which is a modern type.

www.engagementringsdirect.com also have an excellent rep for cushions.

I agree to drop down for a better cut that will be happily dancing around to your eye. That''s what does it for me, because when she''s wearing the ring, it''s the diamonds that are being looked at, not the cert.
