Any such "result" would be anecdotal at best. But I am happy to hear the outcome. Hopefully "happy". (gosh don't ask me to "measure" that!!)

Sharon

How sad is it that I have no idea what you guys are talking about :twirl:

I had drena alternate which ear she put the diamonds in.
There is a thread here somewhere. Even Peter Yantzer, the AGSLab Director, picked the shallow stone over the close to tolkowsky (this holds for earrings and pendants, but not so much for rings in my experiance). In the case of slightly deeper vs Tolkowsky its a no brainer that the Tolkowsky will win.
a Tolkowsky - the slightly deeper will loose a lot of the light return from the outer (upper girdle) facets and have the 'ring of death' inside the table.

Any takers?[/quote]

wellll,RD??...

Garry, I'd love to participate, but my studs are ACA's! They look good all the time!

Send me some diamonds and I'll be glad to help you!

Because the stones are SI2 it is also possible that one has clouds or graining that dulls it.

Thanks, Garry. I've always thought this is true in general but have never seen it said before by any expert nor layperson. It makes sense to me that there is more to clariy than whether or not for example a black spot is visible from x inches.

Danny- it is possible for am SI2 graded stone to be dull due to the imperfection - but many SI2 diamonds do not suffer this.
Kind of like SB turning a stone dull- it happens, but not frequently

Garry- interesting plan- but even if it wasn't completely inconvenient for the OP it's still not going to "prove" anything. .

Thank you David, but in the past your ability to conduct experiments has been poor.
.
I suppose my opimion of your experiments is similar to your opimion of mine.
But I don't see how photos and videos could hurt

Your photo's would be of more value if you would be consistent and share the environment so that others could replicate them.
Its the basis of all R&D and we have never gotten it from you David. No reason to think that would change?

Very interesting thread. Can I conclude that a diamond that scores well on the HCA will always be well cut and sparkle...and that a diamond that scores above 2 on the HCA may or may not.

jewels2 - Good luck in your search for studs. I am also planning to purchase earrings from iD Jewelry (studs or huggies, just can't make up my mind) and I am interested in your experience. When you went to the city, did you look compare the E/F versus the G/H stones? Could you tell the difference in color? I don't live far from the city and will definitely call them before I make a visit.

Best,
