I've been searching for a "pacific northwest" green sapphire for an engagement ring. After reading several threads here, I'm taking a chance on a 17.7ct rough from bazengems.

I'll be posting updates here - hopefully including some in-process shots from the faceting process. Color is difficult to judge over monitors and in different lights, so quite curious to see how this turns out.

Cool!

Love the color in the hand shot. Who are you going to get to cut it for you?

angaria, I believe that's one I looked at from him too. Did he send you a shot where it looks very grassy green? I'm trying to find the pictures he sent me. Very exciting! :) Can't wait to hear and see more.

ETA: I did find the pictures. It probably isn't the same piece, but for what it's worth...

I believe we are indeed talking about the same stone:)

I hadn't seen the "grass green" photo you shared - quite curious to see what shade(s) of green it actually is.

Jeff Haperman of earthstreasury has it now.

Great, angaria!

I just wonder if where I could find this stuff also. Anyway, I love all shots of the stone!
There are a few places that sell rough. Blaze from http://blazengems.com sells montana sapphire rough.

Any updates? :D

Some initial forming and checking for inclusions. Appears generally clean but there's a yellowish core, so we'll see how that plays in the final effect. Think this may be finished sometime next week.

Good luck!

Glad it's coming along well. :D Can't wait to hear and see more. I'm excited for you!!

[side note: Preg, I'm so not used to your new avatar - it keeps throwing me off. ]

 :appl:  A very nice gem indeed! Details, please!!!

Jeff Haperman of Earth's Treasury did just an outstanding performance on this stone. Would highly recommend him for thoughtful and precise custom work. Very communicative throughout and he even produced a high quality gallery of the complete process.

Absolutely amazing! Congratulations! Please post lots of photos!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us -- the pics of the process are super, and the result looks fantastic. More pictures please!

Amazing! A fabulous end result!

WOW!!! Amazing transformation. What are the end result specs? Have you thought of the setting you will put it in? Cant wait to see more.

Excellent lapidary work. Congrats on your new sapphire.

Its 5.64 carats and measures 10.6 x 8.6 mm. I believe his next project will be to figure out a custom setting. I'll shoot some HD video of the gem and post it on Vimeo and then share it here.

Sorry Jeff, this isn't allowed. Trade members may not post items on PS.

That is smoking hot! I have been looking for green sapphire rough, I will check them out.

I have purchased some rough before, I purchased some Amethyst from one of ht ewell known mines and had an asscher cut, it's huge.

Some peridot as well and some blue sapphire from Australia.

I love green Sapphires! Thanks for sharing this!

Got to see this in person for the first time today. Jeff did a great job of keeping the color consistent across the stone and I've never seen more precise and symmetric facets. Looks great!

Next stage is figuring out a setting for this

Was originally going for something organic/twiggy, fitting with the green color. However, the stone is rather angular, so I'm thinking some sort of irregular and angular design might work better. It's fairly tall (~6mm) so I'll need a design than can handle that.

Suggestions/inspirations appreciated!

I know mine stone is a cushion cut and not angular, but if u are still interested in organic/mature style here is mine ring I just made with the same thought with a natural rose cut green diamond. I still think maybe something with a leaf design band would look nice :)

I've been contemplating a setting from JuliaB on etsy called the Iris which looks good with a tall rectangle and has pretty sides that look sort of nature-inspired to me, like flower stems or tall grass, if that's the sort of thing you're looking for…

One of the nicest, if not the best, greens sapphires I've seen. Congrats.
