Maybe this should be in the jewelry section but I figured it would get more traffic here. I''m wondering what peoples'' experiences are with Green Lake Jewelry Works. Are they good at finding gems? I''d be interested in more of the online experiences. Feel free to show your beauties!
I can't speak to their gems--I was looking at solid plat wedding bands. Their engraving style is quite specific, sharp cuts into the metal, not what I was expecting (which was curved grooves, if that makes sense), very fine work that comes off more as a glittery cut-up band than design. It's beautiful, just not what I was looking for. So IMO it's something that's very good to see in-person prior to purchase.
Not sure if that's information that you'd be interested in, but I just thought I'd throw it out there
I am actually in the design process with GLJ right now, using their online personal design page system. I purchased a center stone for a three stone ring from Good Old Gold and will let GLJ obtain the two side pink sapphires for me. I will say that response times have not been a quick as I had been hoping for, but I understand that personal things (illnesses, etc) occur and I''m sure they must be doing quite a business. In addition, the folks I''ve been working with have been effusive in apology and it certainly seems sincere. All questions have been well answered, and all of my input has gone right into the design (which I expect to finalize and set into the production process sometime today).
My take would be look through everything on their website to get a really good idea of their design and sense of style, and talk to them. If you don''t mind the custom process and the time involved (up until now) I would certainly recommend them. I will post further as production begins.
Thanks for the quick responses. I am a bit concerned as everything would be through/over the internet. Also it does seem to take them awhile to get back to me (when I ask questions).
My sister has a beautiful engagement ring from Green Lake. I know she worked with the owner. He likes to communicate through a personal blog which has its pros and cons. There was quite a delay at first so I actually called him to talked to him on my sister''s behalf. After that the communication was much quicker. The setting is beautiful and exactly what she wanted. She had them source out the diamond as well (which is a different department) and had a frustrating experience. They would not give her all the information she asked for (several times) and even "showed" her diamonds that were already sold (by their mistake). In the end she took my advice and called Jamie with WF who did a WONDERFUL job finding her dream diamond *under* their budget. The ring is a stunner. HTH.
I live in Seattle and had my wedding ring set made at Green Lake Jewelry Works. We worked with Adrienne who is one of the designers and she was awesome!! I''m probably one of the pickiest most hard to please girl in Seattle and I had no complaints. I love it and get many many compliments on my fabulous ring Their store is super nice and always PACKED with people (even on weekends). Their turnaround time is about a month, but that is because they''re always busy and thorough with their work. Personally I think you won''t be dissapointed!
I also live in Seattle and worked with them in person. They engraved an existing setting for me. Everyone was super nice and helpful but there were some glitches.
They said they''d fax or email me the design first. I said that wasn''t necessary, but they said they would. Never got either, though they said it was my email that was at fault when I asked, which is possible I''m sure.
I called the day before it was due to be done and was told it was on schedule and to come get it the next day. When I showed up they said "oh, but we didn''t call you to say it''s ready. It''s not done yet, come back tomorrrow."
I came back the next day and again got told "oh we didn''t call you yet... it''s not done but if you wait an hour or so it should be." That time they were right!
So I think they have a bit of organizational unsmoothness going on and people not always talking to each other and/or the customer, but overall I was so thrilled with the delicacy and perfection of their work I wasn''t too worked up about it.
But, if you''re working exclusively online, I figure it''s something to take into account.
