Is this the same as praseolite? Got a mailer from a retail B&M store today with "green amethyst" all over the place. I have never heard of it.

don''t know if its the other stone but there is green amythest....most of which is heated to bring out the color we all call amythest.

Yes Prasiolite is also called Green Amethyst.

Yes, it''s prasiolite. Natural prasiolite is very rare but it occurs. It''s been known for many years that heat, or more recently a combination of irradiation and heat, will change amethyst from some locations into a shade of green. It used to be marketed as "greened amethyst," implying the green color was not natural. Richard M.
