I am so glad the jeweler''s working with you. I love both bezels and martini settings. I love my martini earrings. They sit low and flush, and allow for the entire stone to be displayed. I don''t have bezel earrings, but I have a bezel pendant and love it. It''s a tough call! If the prongs were gone, would be be 100% happy with them?

trying attachment again, sorry

I love martini settings too - my diamonds are set that way and they''re so pretty. They "float" on your ears with that setting!

beautiful earrings purpleshirt!

They are lovely color but it would bother me too. I think they''d be nice in a martini setting too.

Ditto Neatfreak about the BS... Honestly it would bother me... just for the simple fact that you were not expecting them.
I do think they look great on you ear, and people will probably not notice them, but I would say if it is going to bother you then send them back, if not, keep them as is

oobiecoo -- do your diamond bezels have those little prong things? I ask because I liked how yours look and I sent my hubby a link to them for my xmas gift...

Nope, mine don''t have the prongs. And I also had an issue with one diamond being "off" like the OP and had to send them back but he was more than happy to fix it for me.

Yep, he''s been wonderfully responsive and seems like all he wants is for me to be happy!

I would get rid of them....Isn''t whole idea of having a bezel set ring so it doesn''t have the prongs so it is nice an clean looking?
The colour and size are stunning, if I were you I would like to have them perfect! :)

I like coloured stones in bezels over martini prongs. The stones and bezels should fit together just fine, I''m glad that he''s willing to fix it for you. It''d bug me too.

thanks again ladies!

Honestly, I cannot really say what I would do...they don''t look "bad", but I just don''t understand why they are there. If your jeweler has said that he can remove them no problem, then that is probably what I would do.

They are very pretty, I love the color!

I''ve never seen any bezels of any sort with prongs like those. They would bother me.

Thanks everyone! I decided to send them back and just start over from scratch. I''ve ordered a couple of stones from John at Simply Sapphires. I should have them Tuesday and I''ll probably just take them to a local guy and have him set them for me in either the stock Stuller bezel or martini.

I decided I didn''t like the little prongs in the bezel, and although I loved the stones unset, I thought the bezel made them look kinda watery and washed out. The blue was a pretty color but wasn''t being shown off well in those settings. So I just returned them. Yekutiel has been SO wonderful. He said he just wanted me to be happy. I actually am really looking forward to ordering something from him again because of his fantastic customer service. Once I get the new stones, I''ll post more photos!

Glad I started this Christmas project plenty early...

i set stones like that fairly often and we call that "swiss" setting. the stone is entirely open as in the girdle has no metal over it, the only things holding the stone in are those little claws. Its a standard setting when a client wants maximum stone visibility and/or minimal metal surrounding the stone. bezel setting covers the girdle entirely an by its very nature will have a thicker metal surround and also reduce the visible size of the stones.

some stones with thin or uneven girdles (largely semi precious) are also very difficult to bezel set and are set this way. your stones appear to be safe from what i can see, and since they are non wearing (unless you drag your ears along the ground ;) ) this setting would probably be the most optimal one for your stones.

I would leave it or opt for a claw set job.

my 0.02 cents ;)

Honestly, that sounds like BS to me. I''ve seen plenty of sapphires bezeled without problems, but I am sure it takes more time and effort than just putting in the little prongs. Something like that would bother me for sure...
Ditto - sounds a bit shady to me. A well made bezel should hold the stones in place safer than any other setting.

I''ve seen that before on more vintage type pieces. The claws are barely visible, and I guess are supposed to help with securing the setting. It would not bother me. I think they are pretty.

katie- i would''ve sent them back also. the little prongs would''ve bugged me. looking forward to seeing your new sapphires.

Thanks for the additional responses! Seems like I''ve gotten a mixed bag of "keep ''em" and "that would drive me nuts"!

I sent them back anyway and am waiting for my new stones to arrive tomorrow. I''ll be sure to post pics!

Looks like you've made a decision that is good for you.

Keep us posted!

(The little prongs would have driven my batty....)
