Thanks guys! To answer questions… Yes, my work lights are fluorescent. Most of my stones don't look as nice under them, but this one does- though I don't think the pictures really show that.
I was worried the stone might darken a bit in the bezel, but I think it actually looks about the same. It's kind of a darkish stone anyway, kind of like an oceanic teal. It goes pretty dark in direct sunlight or bright spotlights kind of like an ideal cut diamond does, then under shade and indoors it sings and shimmers. It really reminds me of a mermaid's tail, which is why I named her Ariel. She's really more of an indoor stone overall, which is fine with me since that's where I spend most of my time (sadly).
I do love me some budget settings. Budget stones AND settings if I'm being perfectly honest. Most of mine are from Stuller. If I could go back in time I probably would have done all of them in silver instead of white gold. I don't know why I ever turned against silver. Maybe because of cleaning, though I think dish soap is ok for it.
YUMMY!!! What a fantastic collection you have amassed of such beautiful vibrant stones --- they really *do* look like candies on your hand!! And this setting --- oh my! --- I love it! Really makes the tourmaline the focus but has that unique band that adds so much interest. Fabulous choice (and fabulous COLLECTION!!)
Wow, candyland! What a beautiful collection you've got there
Can I ask for details on the yellow stone (citrine? rose/Portuguese cut??) ring in the top of the photo? It's so sunny and cheerful!
Thank you guys so much! I just started collecting this year and I have WAY too much fun buying and setting stones...
As for the yellow stone, it's a Mali garnet from gemfix in "galaxy" cut. I love the shape because it's a got a super chunky looking high crown and the facets look really cool glittering from the top- I kind of wish ALL my rounds had that shape. Outside, with the sun at my back, it's the brightest and flashiest thing I've ever seen! Turn so the sun isn't shining into it, and… meh. It's definitely the most fickle stone I've gotten so far.
