Just purchased a 1.54ct Asscher. It showed up at work today. It was tough taking out the loupe and having a look at my desk without anybody seeing

It's a 1.54ct, G color, medium blue fluorescence (although I can barely see it), completely clean SI1, VG symmetry, G polish. You can see a few specs in this picture but they're just stuff that I got on the surface and I'm too afraid to clean it since it moves around in the diamond holder thing. Also, it looks blurry since these things are hard to take pictures of but it's crystal clear in person.

Got an appointment for an appraisal next week and then it's off to have a custom setting made for it!

Congrats! Such lovely wide corners!

Would you mind sharing info/tips on where you purchased it? My hunt has come up empty.

Beautiful! The medium blue fluoro will be great! What setting are you thinking of??

Congrats, it looks great!! What setting?

Here''s a little better pic! The girlfriend is home so I had to hide it away for the night

Clop, I worked with Pete at Quest Jewelers. You can check out their web site at questjewelers.com -- he was great help! I explained what I was looking for and he called in a few stones. He got me a great deal on this stone...I was planning on spending the same amount getting a one carat but he pulled this for me.

NewEnglandLady, I''m planning on getting a "bridge" setting similar to this Verragio:

http://verragio.com/gallery_detail.php?prod_id=607&col_id=50&slide_num=1

I''m going to have a row of 15 channel-set diamonds below the center stone. I''d go with the Verragio but I want square emeralds as the channel stones, and I''m trying to get something about 4mm. I hear Quest has done some great custom work for others on the board...I''m confident Pete will come through for me as well

The hard part is going to be waiting until September to propose!

Congrats, it''s gorgeous!!!!

Thanks for the info!

1.54 for the price of 1 is pretty neat.

That is such a beautiful setting! Can''t wait to see finished pics.

Gorgeous! I love the big fat corners and itty steps! Nice find!

Love asschers and the corners are awesome. She will be blown away!!

The best part is I have been telling her for months that the most I could afford is a half carat diamond on a simple white gold band, even though she wanted some tiny sidestones. She said she''d be happy with whatever I get her since she loves me...can''t wait to see her reaction

Wow, congratulations. You have great taste. I love reading posts where it''s the boyfriend/fiance/husband posting! It''s so refreshing.

Wow, that looks like it''s one clean SI1! Congrats!

The setting is great! She''s going to be blown away by the whole ring! You''re going to have a tough time waiting until September! :)

Sorry to keep reviving this thread but wanted to add an update...diamonds are addictive and I don''t have anybody to tell about my experiences!

After receiving the diamond last week I was convinced that it was the right stone for me...but I wanted a pair of trained, unbiased eyes to take a look so I searched the area for appraisers. Richard Sherwood at the Sarasota Gemological Lab came highly recommended so I dropped him an email and set up an appointment for yesterday. It was about an hour and a half''s drive down there...had no problem finding it and it''s a very secure facility with armed guards.

I was nervous, as a bad appraisal from Richard would send the stone back to the dealer and I didn''t want to go through the search again

He took it out of the box...held up his loupe and said..."wow, I really like this stone." THANK GOD!

Richard was awesome. I can''t say enough good things about the experience. His office is very comfortable and he explained every aspect of the grading process in plain English and had plenty of interesting stories. He''s a genuinely nice guy which is rare to find these days.

In any event, everything with my stone checked out. I can''t post the exact proportions as the girlfriend is home right now and would be very suspicious if I went into the fire safe, but Richard said it''s got great windmills, the inclusion is precisely what you want in an SI1 (white cloud that''s very difficult to see with the naked eye), and that the cut is midway between a classic and modern Asscher. He rated the cut quality as "very good". He also rated the polish as "Excellent" while the GIA cert stated only "Good" and explained the GIA''s rating procedure and how that could have happened.

He was also very surprised with what I paid for the stone and said I got an incredible deal. The appraisal really was a best-case scenario; I heard everything that I was hoping and then some.

All in all, I''ve had a great experience with Pete from Quest and Richard from SGL so far! Pete''s working up my CAD and I should have that next week...I''ll be sure to post it! Slept like a baby last night now that the hard part of buying the engagement ring is done. I''m looking forward to visiting Richard again in a couple of months to evaluate the whole ring.

And yes, Rich is a great guy. Glad everything''s going well, can''t wait to see your ring!!

Your diamond is beautiful!

Your diamond is gorgeous! Congratulations.

What a wonderful story and what a beautiful Asscher! Congratulations!

Looks great Capt..

How long did you hunt for?

congrates!!!
Love the asscher
Rich rocks there is no question about that!

Thanks strm! That is definitely great news!

brightpupils, I''ve been looking at stones online and reading everything I can about them since the beginning of the year while I''ve been saving up. I''ve only been looking in earnest since the middle of May. From the time that I contacted Quest to the time I got this stone it was about two weeks.

Such a beautiful asscher, Captain! Wonderful find!

That diamond looks amazing, I am sure it''ll look even better once it''s mounted on the ring.

The ring you mentioned from Verragio:

ENG0069P

is the same exact ring I have been dreaming about for the last few months and after talking to few Verragio stores, I know that that ring does come with princess, round and baguette shaped diamonds under the center. So if you are still interested I would find out which other options it comes with. A local store told me that they only display small amount of their collections on their web site and they are known for their custom works.

Let me know how it goes...

Beautiful asscher, and gorgeous setting that you are planning on...this will be a very pretty ring!

Gorgeous ring. I LOVE that asscher. It''s absolutely what I would pick other than a RA. It''s perfect. Now, quick q. did you mean square emerald cut or square emerald as in green with envy over that?

shay

Gorgeous diamond! Congrats!!
