I have been poring over this site for the past month and have educated myself immensely. I am very grateful I found it before I did something careless. I have found a diamond (through a contact on this site) and am hoping your expertise can give me more guidance.

--From EGL--
Round Brilliant, G, SI2, 2.12 ct
Total depth: 62.9%
Table width: 68%
Crown height: 15%
Pavillion depth: 43%
Girdle thickness: Medium, faceted
Polish: Good to Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Culet: None
Price just under $10k

A few direct questions:
1. Any other info I should try to obtain that would be beneficial?
2. What can an independent appraiser do for me? If his/her opinion is less than EGL, would it make a difference?
3. Is it common practice to buy site unseen. Or are people in the habit of making some sort of arrangement (what kind)?

Thanks!
-Nathan

Table 68% - I think it's a typo and should be 58%?

before you pay for the diamond. David would also check it with ideal-scope.

In this scenario you won't worry about buying sight unseen.

You also can inquire about crown and pavilion angles (Sarin report) for this diamond because EGL report shows rounded depth % that are not accurate enough. However, main concerns can still be about accuracy of color and clarity grades.

Yes, typo. Table width: 58%
I will try to have it sent to an appraiser.
Thanks,
