Good size for stepped-cut diamond studs these days?

What would be considered a ''generous size'' for some square cut emerald or asscher cut earrings these days (for a person with a normal earlobe)?

To be worn in a dressier context... not everyday... more like cocktail party attire. Please quote tcw or individual.

Would you recommend going with asschers or square cut emeralds? Is the extra step noticeable in earrings?
Does anyone on Pricescope have a pair of more elongated emerald cut earrings?

If anyone out there has any images of their earrings please post them, with specs.
