Morganmack, Did you find it in local B&M store? Platinum Tiffany style solitaire costs $300. You can find similar ideal cut diamond in the internet for about $1000 less.

Yes . . . That is the diamond bought from a local trusted jeweler. Is it far out of reason??

I guess not if you're comfortable dealing with him/her and appreciate the service

Leonid . . . Is it reasonable to be a touch skeptical of investing that kind of money in a stone that I have never physically seen, or has it become an acceptable method of jewelry purchasing?? Are my concerns founded?

Internet diamond purchasing using an appraiser as a third party is completely risk free for the consumer, and offers them the advantage of having a professional counsel them in their purchasing.

In my opinion it is easier to get exactly what you want (at a substantial savings) through the internet. In addition, you have several cut geek vendors here who sell magnificently cut stones the likes of which are seldom seen in most bricks & mortar stores.

Of course it is reasonable. Only some 3%-5% people buying diamonds over the Internet today. On another hand, even if you see a stone in the store you still cannot evaluate its value unless you are an expert. Therefore you've got to trust your vendor or/and use independent appraiser.

acting on your behaf plus internet vendor with good track record and return policy is a good combination. Note that some internet vendors agree to send diamonds for independent inspection before you pay for it.

However, there is nothing wrong with paying a bit extra and buy from a jeweler whom you trust and feel comfortable dealing with.

Leonid,

I like your true and honest advice eventhough most internet vendors here pay you for ads space. I see the advantage of internet shopping for a diamond; but it's not for everyone yet. Especially, someone like myself who lives in Toronto, Canada.

Great site. It's additive.

Hi,
Just for you to do a price comparison, I bought a RB 1.39 cts F VS2 H&A for $10200. You can have a look at it at GOG at the educational diamond section. The ring was orderd separately.
