My wife and I like this bracelet for her. It's for sale in a nice shop in Spain. We went inside to look at it and we're wondering if it's worth the 1600 Euro price tag. There are gold loops around a spring-like inner piece so it grips the wrist. The gold is 18 carat. The diamonds are said to be black diamonds. I know it isn't much to go on, but what do you think?

Worth is highly subjective when you are talking about fashion pieces. However I would assume the black diamonds are irradiated. These aren't worthless but they don't really have gem value. I can't really tell how big they are from the pic but at Africa Gems black melee diamonds are priced from $18 to $78 each. If you can figure out how much the gold weighs you can price it. The rest would be design and workmanship. The latter you can't tell from a picture and design is very hard to quantify.

This style bracelet is inspired by Links of London signature piece I suppose? For reference, the original Links piece would cost GPB1500 without the stone.

If a comparable bracelet goes for 1500 GBP maybe the price isn't so bad. How much would you offer for this bracelet if you wanted it?

I'd absolutely want the gram weight of the gold before deciding value.

Dont think there's a lot of gold in the GBP 1500 Links of London bracelet. It is the brand and design that cost $. The one you see in Spain, is it by Links of London? If it's not, you would be paying a lot of money for a bracelet that looks like the Links of London piece.

Yup, the gold is worth more than the stones.

I think you guys are saying it seems to be overpriced which is the same impression I have. Should I ask the shop what is the weight of the gold?

FWIW, this sort of design normally has rather little gold in it. There's a steel spring in the middle that's responsible the majority of the weight of the piece.

Hi denverappraiser, could you ballpark a fair price for this item?

No, not without seeing it. Prices on these sorts of things have a lot more to do with the manufacturer, the dealer, and the marketplace where they're being sold than with the materials involved. Some designers charge a lot more for their talents than others and some dealers have a significantly more expensive distribution approach than others. This doesn't make the expensive ones unfair nor does it make the cheaper ones bargains. It is what it is. This is a fashion accessory and possibly a souvenir of a visit to a nice place, not an investment.

OK, that sounds fair. How low of an offer do you think I could make without being insulting? I'm not familiar with etiquette in these matters.

Offer whatever you like. It varies wildly from store to store but people negotiate this stuff all the time. I assure you that you won't be the first, nor will you be the last. They won't be offended that you would ask and even if they're taken a little aback, they'll get over it. At the same time, don't YOU be offended if they refuse. ;))
