This one sounds like a good deal for $14,000.

GIA- March 30, 2009

Shape and Cutting Style-- Round Brilliant
Measurements-- 7.359x7.64x4.73mm

Carat Weight-- 1.71 carat
Color Grade-- F
Clarity Grade-- VS2
Cut Grade-- Very Good

Finish
Polish-- Very Good
Symmetry-- Very Good
Fluorescence-- None
Comments--
Additional clouds are not shown. (What does this mean?)

Table 57%
Depth 62.1%
Crown Angle 33.0 degrees or 14.0%
Pavillion Angle 40.8 degrees or 43.0%
Cutlet-none

Girdle thin-thick (faceted) 5.0% (Is this OK?)

It seems to score well on the HCA table (0.9). What do you think? Would it be worth it for me to look for Cut-Excellent, Polish-Excellent, and Symmetry-Excellent. My budget is roughly $18,000 to $19,000.

Thanks

Oops. 7.59x7.64x4.73 correct measurements

It looks like a good contender. The additional clouds not shown comment doesn''t matter as long as the clouds are not grade making inclusions. Those will be listed on the cert under the clarity plot so check there.

GIA will not give an excellent cut grade unless the polish and symmetry are excellent. In my opinion, diamonds like this one you have found *can* be great because you cannot actually *see* the difference between vg and ex sym and polish, so you save money at no expense to appearance of the diamond really.

I think we need to see an IS image to be sure on this one. It is a tad deeper than I like and the crown a tad shallower than I like, but the proportions are complimentary according to HCA but it is best to check the IS if you can.

What are the lower girdle facets length?

I think the girdle is fine, you just want to avoid ex thin and ex thick.

BTW PS is very slow today (go figure

Thanks for the help. I will see about getting the IS image. Any other opinions out there?
