I have found a diamond that I am looking to purchase for my wife but cannot determine if it is a good deal. It is being offered locally for sale by one of the most reputable jewelry stores in my town. The stone is being offered at $20,500. My wife prefers size to a smaller stone with higher color and this stone is eye clean even being rated an SI2. What are your thoughts? Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance!

how is a 3 ct J a small stone with high color? High color is at least a G.

Anyone?

If the price is in-line with other such candidates it could be fine. As a FYI, the AGSL did not provide a cut grade for this diamond, so the "Excellent" cut has been assigned by someone else. You may already know that.

JulieN,
I read it that the OP's wife want a big size over a smaller size with higher colour, so she doesn't mind warmth.

VDub,
Cannot tell a thing without at least a picture. It is impossible for us to comment on your stone because fancies cannot be purchased by the numbers alone. I do think the stone is too deep at nearly 70% though, so your 3 ct stone looks smaller than a 3 ct stone should.

I have read that a lower table % also may provide more sparkle than a diamond with a higher table reading. Is this true? What do you think of the price? Thanks again....newbie here.

There is no guarantee that a smaller table will get you a sparklier stone - there are so many possibilities that no one can guess which one it is. It is all about how the angles work together.
