Hey. I have looked at a diamond which got GOOD cut, is that okay, its a 1.15 carat, VS1, F diamond with that cut okay, or do i have to get something better?. The price is 6140 usd

Looking forward for your answers

Why? As in, what caused the "good" cut grade, and what authority graded the stone? I really can't think of any exception-worthy reasons to settle for a modern RB w/ a GIA G cut grade when there are *so* many stones of so many different types and makes that do rate higher cut grades.

Edit*
To keep in mind - the primary market prices pretty consistently from everything I've seen, so if you see a stone that looks like a deal too good to be true - it is. In this case I am seeing GIA F VS1s for 11k+, so you can be sure that this RB is not up to standard in some way.

Hi,
We'd have to see the exact numbers to provide an answer. But, generally "good" cut means the diamond may not have the best of cut proportions to equal what a 1.15 size diamond should look like, meaning it may face up smaller. You may actually be better off getting a diamond with a smaller ct weight which measures the diamond you're looking at now *and* it will have more life and sparkle to it. What shape are you looking for?

Within GIA Excellent, there are stones that are much better than others. You are not going to find support here for Good cut stones and rarely for very good. Go for the best cut quality and then balance out your other specs such as size, color, and clarity to fit your budget.

Thanks for your answers. I think its fantastic so fast you are making an answer. I am looking for a round diamond, but i will go for a better cut. Thanks.

You can also safely go down to an eye-clean VS2 to offset the cost of a better-cut stone!

Okay, what price do you think will be fair for such a round diamond, VS2, F color and Exellent cut?

you can do a search on PS. what are your parameters? does it have to be F, VS2? also what size are you wanting, and what is your budget?

Freaks- is the grade of "good" from a GIA report?

Here, put excellent-excellent in the cut rank box, put your specs, and then click "in-house" which means the stones are present and available for pictures, etc.

Just FYI, there is a big price jump when you get up to F color, so you may want to consider G-H to allow more size.

No its not from a GIA report. My budget is about 8000 USD, and i have maked some seach here, but i am thinking about what the price will be in a shop. I think that you can get the diamond at a lower price, if you are going to a shop, and says that you want to buy this one. I do not know so much about diamonds, so thats why i am asking about the cut and price. :)

Local shops generally have higher markup than online, around 10-15%.

not on PS... a well cut 1.15ct rb should be right around 6.80mm in diameter.

Hi, how do you calculate whats the diameter is going to be?

you can read the diameter from the GIA report.

I meen, how do you calculate the perfekt diameter for a diamond.

I suggest sticking with stones that come with a reputable cert like GIA or AGS, and sticking to GIA cut grades of Excellent/Very Good or AGS0/1 as a general rule of thumb.

wrong post haha

When it comes to how beautifully a diamond performs with light cut is the most important, but least understood, of the four Cs.
"Perfect diameter" is only one of several characteristics of good cut.

Round is the shape for which it is easiest to find good cut.
There are two steps.

1. Get four numbers from the lab report and plug them into the Holloway Cut Advisor, or HCA, Depth %, Table %, Crown Angle, Pavilion Angle:
https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca
Reject rounds that score over 2.0.

2. For rounds scoring under 2.0 get an Idealscope image:
https://www.pricescope.com/tools/ideal-scope
Compare the image to this chart:

Next only consider diamonds graded by GIA or AGS.
Other labs lie about color and clarity grades, so they are NOT the great deal the appear to be.
Honest online vendors I recommend are Goodoldgold, Whiteflash, Jamesallen, Craftedbyinfinity, Briangavindiamonds
Local jewelry stores are more expensive and, with a few exceptions, are not likely to carry well cut diamonds.

I saw that it had accidentally been bumped. I just figured people's time would better be spent answering current threads rather than one that is very old!

I guess I was too busy of a day for me. :wink2:

 I am sure we have all done it! It just takes time to post and I prefer putting the energy into current threads. It was a good post, Kenny, nevertheless!
