gold used in invisible setting?

I have a question with invisible setting, u know when the princess cut stones are like 'twined' together or whatever u wanna call it, how is it done? Like is it done with gold? Like if I was having white princess cut diamonds set on a yellow gold ring setting, would they use yellow gold in the invisible setting?
Or if they dont use gold to make the diamonds sit together, cuz when I look at invisible setting u can see the gold spacing out the diamonds from one another which isnt very pretty.

The diamonds have small grooves cut into their sides and when they are assembled a flat gold wire is threaded through the grooves to keep the stones in line with each other. That wire is them soldered to the setting at it's ends holding the whole works together.
