So I'm curious, how does this affect the price of platinum?

On the CNN Money site, you can make that graph show you the price of gold compared to the price of platinum. The overall trend is that the price of gold and platinum are positively correlated, but you can see the correlation is not perfect; they are not perfect substitutes for each other.
