Gold plating fashion jewelry

Is gold plating fashion jewelry a thing? It seems like it is, right? I have some casual earrings that I love for their shape and feel but the original plating has worn off. These are super inexpensive, think $20-40 from Banana Republic-type earrings. But…I looove them. Can I take them to my local jeweler and ask for them to be replated? Would that be ridiculously expensive?

I looked it up to see if you can do it. $35 (in the article) is very low, in my opinion, to rhodium plate jewelry. I’ve been charged $75-$100+ for rings and earrings. I hope you find a solution!
