gold plated tungsten carbide scratch resistant?

Hi,

I am wondering how scratch resistant gold plated tungsten carbide is vs non-plated tungsten carbide?

I don't haveny experience with gold plated tungsten carbide, but I would imagine it behaves pretty much like any other plated metal - prone to wearing and scratching off.

So scratch resistance of a plated metal has nothing to do with the underlying alloy? Seems like it should. Anyone with experience with this combination?

Since the top layer is 24k gold, it will scratch as normal. The scratch, however, will not extend to the harder tungsten carbide underneath. So the gold will get scratched, but you won't get any deep scratches.
