Gold or Platinum Prongs for an M OEC?

Hi helpful people!

I narrowed down my choices to one OEC and my BF put down a down payment to Mark Broumand for a custom setting! The diamond that I chose is an M VS1 OEC and while I'm going with yellow gold for the setting, I'm wondering if I should do two-tone for the prongs/basket? The color of the M honestly looks quite white to me so I wonder if having YG prongs would also make it look more golden?

I'm going with a similar setting to the RC's Signature Antique in case anyone is curious! I also attached a video for the diamond (it's the first one on the hand)

I had an M OEC which had medium blue fluor and it was set in a white gold head with yellow gold shank so hopefully this helps! I would say if it looks pretty white than the platinum will probably be a good bet.

Pretty!! I love the baguettes on the ring! Do you feel like it looks more "white" because you chose white gold prongs?

Not an OMC but a M coloured oval here I struggled with my decision but ultimately decided to go all yellow gold. I tended to notice the tint more when my stone was placed near a white metal so since I wear more yellow gold, I went with 20K yellow. I have since seen many lower colours look great with white metal prongs so the best thing to do is to take it to your jeweller and see if they can mount it in a white gold setting for you to see what it's like.

At the end of the day, an M is an M and not an F. My beauty looks quite white in daylight but there's warmth compared to my F. In other lights, it looks tinted as expected.

I have a lower colored OMC, and I'd ask the jeweler to place the stone in a yellow, rose and white setting to see what your eyes like with the shade of your stone. I swore up and down I wanted my setting in platinum, but when I saw my stone paired with 18 kt rose gold, my heart fluttered. It totally depends on your own preferences and the individual stone!

I would try a two tone setting - white basket, yellow band; I find this fits the changes of apparent color of stones in different light; it is also much more done than the reverse, since platinum is a more sensible metal for light prongs than gold (OK, there is so much tresspassing this idea.)

Personally I preferred yellow gold all the way. My N in YG for reference. She faces up pretty white, and might have faced up whiter in WG or platinum, but I loved the YG prongs on her. Maybe a little more creamy, but I am really happy I went with YG as I was also debating platinum/WG prongs.

I love how delicate your prongs are! I can actually barely tell and I love YG bands personally with my own skin tone. The reason why I'm agonizing a bit (lol) is because the prongs I choose will be similar to this style: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17863089532705273/

Since they will "wrap" a bit around the diamond, and I've never seen that style with yellow prongs, it's hard for me to tell what will look better!

I don't think your link is working, but I think I can understand your dilemma. My vote would be to see your stone in different color settings so you can get a better feel of what you prefer. I was also worried about how YG would affect the color of my stone, but after seeing it in different settings at the jeweler, I personally felt yellow gold looks so much better on my skin tone, that I think have been dissatisfied with the platinum/WG for myself even if it made my stone whiter.

Good point, I'll have to see additional settings, a little tricky in this situation because I'm in SF and the jeweler is in LA, but I could get a sense with the digital renderings. Thanks for your input!!
